Le Placard is coffee shop where the décor is vintage style and will have you looking around for treasures. They offer free Wi-Fi so it's an ideal location to sit for hours, to enjoy a book or work in groups. It's quite spacious, so no need to worry about finding a seat. In the background, the choice of music was jazz; a great choice for a relaxing Sunday morning, but it was hard to fully enjoy since the CD kept skipping. Although my coffee was good, it was not exactly what I ordered. When I asked for Sugar Twin (being diabetic), the waiter looked at me like was strange and said 'no, we just have what is there' (referring to the brown sugar). Although the overall ambiance was chill and relaxed, I felt like my presence was an inconvenience to the waiter. He took his time to acknowledge my arrival., didn't bring a menu and never smiled. The menu was a photocopy of hand-written menu that was not clear and even harder to read in the poorly lit section where I was sitting. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, which according to the menu included mayo, egg, lettuce and tomato. Unfortunately, there was no tomato in mine and there was so much mayo, it was literally the main ingredient. For every bite I took, there was a tsp of mayo that fell out. I also decided to take a chocolate chip cookie to go. It's a good thing my blood sugar was low because it was loaded with sugar. They are active on their FB page, which shows enthusiasm. I just wish the waiter was more eager to be offering a friendly service.
This is a great little cafe in the eastern part of the Plateau. Good selection of locally produced Cafe Rico coffee, tea and herbal tea, and small food items. They have some good desserts on hand usually as well. It's a nice quiet place to have a quick business meetup as well.
T he owner François is very rude and I did not feel that he was professional to earn my money to eat there. I know many people that said it's very dirty and not very clean. Especially the washrooms!! It's your typically café shop with over priced items. I write for a Montreal food article column, and my experience when I went was an over all 3 out of 10!
Great place to hang out and grab a coffee and biscotti in the morning or anytime. The jambon & fromage sandwich was delicious.
