After reading the new reviews we opted to visit for lunch and make Sunday brunch...reservations. Oh boy the rave reviews about brunch were spot on! Thank you Fredrick for another memorable Montreal experience.
I visited this restaurant a few weeks ago, it offers nice and authentic south of France (Provence) cooking. The restaurant is very small with just a few tables, service was efficient and friendly. There were only employees during our lunch hour visit. The host/waiter...spent a good deal of time petting a black cat that jumped up and down from the cash counter. He told us he did not own the cat but the animal clearly knew its way in the restaurant and kept coming back in, I did not feel this was hygienic, I will not be returning for this reason.
It is a really small and cozy bistro with people running it (one up front and one in the kitchen). I used to work near and go there at least once a week at lunch when they have special prices For dinner, the...main dishes are around which is reasonable for Montreal especially for that kind of restaurant. Unlike many "French" restaurants which are overpriced and overhyped, this gem is delicious. The menu which changes with the seasons, offers just enough to guarantee everything is fresh. Another reason to go is the wine list! Privately imported, the wine will be the perfect addition to your meal. Last but not least, the owner will make you travel to France just by presenting you the "plat du jour".
And we might make it three before we leave tomorrow. Frederic, the owner and only server makes you feel like family. Two of us had lunch here before the other four Washington friends arrived the following day. We were so impressed we went back for...dinner a couple of nights later. Try the duck tagliatelle, it does not get better than this. The steak was amazing, and desert was some of the best of eight days of eating. But his knowledge of wine pairings really set this place apart. Thank you Frederic! We loved it when several days later, you rolled down your window as you drove by us walking down the street, and shouted and waived "hello Washington Wow, now that shows attention to your customer.
This a small tables) simply decorated real French restaurant. We had a pasta dish with duck and yellow mushrooms and a nice small steak with hand cut local vegetables, and yellow mushrooms. The food was excellent. The owner is the only waiter serving (at the time of our visit) and he was very busy. Remember that when serving the local crowd he tends to spent more time talking with his regulars than with the English speaking vacationers.
