Another recommendation from our Concierge in possibly the oldest building in Montreal. Reputed to have the best steaks in town, certainly the steak was huge but was a little overdone for a restaurant with this reputation

Took a group of clients out for dinner. While the restaurant provides a good piece of meat, the steaks were just alright after considering how expensive they were. While the staff was friendly, they were just alright with numerous serving errors throughout the night (ex. they didn't clean my setting nor the person sitting next to me after we finished our appetizers, they mIxed up a couple of orders, asked us to pass along people's sorbet because they couldn't get to the other side of the table, etc.). Just seemed like amateur hour. Portion sizes are very large with some of the largest deserts I've ever seen. Definitely consider sharing a desert between 2 or more people. If you select the Gibby cut steak, don't have breakfast or lunch because it's over 20 ounces. If you want a fancy coffee, order a Spanish coffee since they prepare it in front of you with fire and booze mixed together to create quite the show.If you plan on visiting, bring a healthy appetite and your wallet because it will set you back a pretty healthy amount of cash.It's hard to consider Gibbys a fine dining experience when the waitresses are wearing a costume more appropriately found on Little House on the Prairie. We were taken there by some friends who've mentioned the restaurant was incredibly charming and the food was great. Gibbys didn't disappoint in either of those two categories: the building is a converted old stable and although very popular with locals and visitors, the standard of service is never dropped.Not only they have fantastic steaks and seafood but a daily catch of fish and a great selection of different foods and desserts. You get what you pay for and although this is not the cheapest of restaurants it is worth every penny.
