The atmosphere is one to be coveted for sure, and not many restaurant owners are lucky enough to claim a piece of property like this. It's situated far enough away from the hustle and bustle of city life, that aside from the soft clattering of forks hitting plates from time to time and one's wine glass clinking another's there's only the sound of crickets off in the distance at sunset, and that of your own heartbeat in the stillness of this enchanting place. It leaves you wide eyed and dreamy when you first arrive (most certainly by car, because as far as I know there is no public transportation to get you to this place, and the only way you could manage to get here on foot is if you left a day before, since it's nowhere near any city, town or village for miles and miles). The hills and vineyards the wrap around the surrounding area of which you have a stunning view, would give any cynic of Italy's charming beauty a second thought. My date and I were lucky enough to sit outside in the evening, when the weather was absolutely perfect for dining alfresco (early June), and it was just when the sun was setting, to give us a breathtaking sight to witness as we munched on our appetizers which were incredible. To start, we had delicious and potent red wine, local to the area and distributed by the owners of the establishment. The most delicious thing I ate that night, and quite frankly in the three weeks since I've been back in Italy, was the potato parmigiano appetizer that they served us. I asked for the recipe but then forgot to get it from the hostess before we left. It was amazing and I'd go back JUST to have that again. The other appetizers included a specialty bruschetta, which reminded me a lot of American Thanksgiving stuffing, fried zucchini and fried (galletti) mushrooms. We shared our main dish which was galletti mushroom pasta. While I didn't share the same enthusiasm as my date did over this dish it was certainly not bad. The dessert definitely made up for any small disappointment I had with the pasta, which was like angel's tears they were so sweet, innocent and creamy. Something that melted in your mouth the moment it went in, it was simply one of the best desserts I think I've ever had. With mascarpone cream and chocolate drops, there was a flaky top that added to this stupendous end to a fantastic meal. Absolutely without a doubt, the view is the best part of this restaurant. That, and the fact that you feel like you're at someone's home. While it's able to capture the elegance and professionalism of any other above average restaurant, at the same time it allows you to feel very relaxed, at home and welcomed in a way that is simply priceless. When we asked for a cap for the bottle of wine we'd ordered to take it with us our waitress insisted that she bring us a brand new bottle at no additional charge. The staff is incredibly welcoming, the food outstanding and the environment not only romantic and inviting, but peaceful and stereotypically Italian in the best way possible!
On a number of occasions in recent times, my wife and I had the pleasure to dine in the lovely ancient walls of La Pallotta. The food is prepared with fresh ingredients, delicately served and always of a very good and pure quality. The choice of wines is excellent, with obviously also the estate wines on offer.
