Cocina Candela - Montclair

The food and service were excellent; however, a downside was the room temperature, which was 85 degrees that day. The air conditioning was not turned on, making us feel hot and uncomfortable. Although the A/C was eventually switched on after we requested it, by that time, it was too late to make a difference.

I wanted to love Cocina Candela, which boasts an elegant ambiance and beautifully presented dishes, but unfortunately, the flavors didn't quite deliver. The octopus salad was drowned in bland oil, while the red snapper sat on a sweet potato puree that added nothing to the dish. The mofongo was disappointingly gummy and hard to chew, paired with mere cubes of chicken. The shrimp rice was extremely basic, consisting of just those two ingredients. On the bright side, the chorrasco was quite good—cooked to the perfect rare, just as we requested. However, the tres leches dessert was a letdown, especially since it's usually a crowd-pleaser elsewhere. My theory is that in an attempt to elevate the dining experience—something I don't fault them for—Cocina Candela may have missed the mark on the bold flavors I expect from Puerto Rican cuisine.

The food was good, but the music was aggressive loud for brunch. I went there for vater 's and the whole experience was 't pleasant, because we could hardly hear each other about the music. we asked the server to turn it 4 times and every time it was barely switched off. Finally, my father had to stand up and complain to the manager, and her answer was the owner as it was completely unacceptable, especially if her 're trying to spend the quality of the family time for the brunch on vater's day. will not go back from this reason.

Excellent brunch! we went to brunch on vaterday. in the rule this is difficult to go out on a holiday, but we were not disappointed. we had a reservation for which we arrived on time and we sat right away. the waiting staff was very good and attentive, although it was busy. the place is small, but we were comfortable. it was nice outside so that the doors and windows were open so there was a really nice brise. we had maisfritter and empanadas as appetizers. very good! for the brunch we chose puerto rican benedict, a Cuban sandwich, lobster omelette and chirrasco con huevos. all were very good! we enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere. we will definitely come back! and since I know it is byob, I will bring champagne for mimosas next time!

Food is fresh, delicious and authentic. Atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed with perfect salsa music to accompany the flavors. Service was pleasant and efficient. Will be back!
