UPDATE: I took down two stars due to a very persistent issue I've been having at this branch; The chicken tenders are coldEverySingleTime.
I was a bit wary coming here after I saw the reviews about the slow service, but I decided to come anyway because it was the closest Popeyes.
We knew for months that there will be a Popeyes store in the just built Trinity District at Lakeview along Lakeshore Rd E. But when? It has been 2 weeks since we saw little orange lawn signs saying “Popeyes now open” in the neighbourhood when we finally decided to give it a try. We walked into their spanking new restaurant (entrance is at the back of the building), approached the counter and ordered a 12-pc family meal ($36.99) for takeout. We paid and after a short wait our number was called and we left with our order. We have never eaten Popeyes before and could only compare it to KFC. We found Popeyes chicken crunchy outside and oily inside. I thought mild meant a hint of spice but maybe it was plain regular because there was absolutely no heat there which was fine with us. The 2 large sides we ordered, mashed potatoes and Cajun fries, were good. It was only later when I was putting away the receipt that I realized something was missing from our order. The 12-pc family meal includes 2 large sides AND 6 biscuits. We double-checked the boxes, maybe it was packed with the chicken or fries, but no, not a biscuit in sight. I was not happy at this point. I found the store’s numbers from the menu flyer handed to us earlier at the counter, and called. The person on the other line apologized for the lapse and said to come next time and say we did not get the biscuits. He did not give me his name, I guess that meant we could just talk to anyone at the counter and explain the mess. Although a solution was offered, I was still put off with the fact that our takeout order was handed to us incomplete. The restaurant was not busy at the time, in fact from the time we arrived until we left they only prepared one order, ours. The next day we went back to get our biscuits. Good thing the manager was there (it turns out he was the one I spoke to on the phone) because the counter staff had no idea what to do with my concern. While we waited I also bought Cajun gravy (reg $1.99) and after paying I caught a mistake on the receipt which the manager (again) fixed. The crew members seemed like newbies so I will chalk up these hiccups as part of the learning curve. Hopefully no errors next time although we have no plans of returning anytime soon.Popeyes Lakeshore & Cawthra is open 7 days a week from 11AM to 11PM. Seating available for 35+ people: a row of plastic booths on each side of the dining area, 6 bar stools around half-circle counter table behind the condiments section. Two separate unisex washrooms at the back, one accessible. Free off-street parking.
This restaurant offers big portions of chicken and excellent service. Comfortable seating. Highly recommended!
