We used Bove 's to cater my Aunt 's celebration of life service this fall, months after she died of Covid. Having worked restaurants and banquet 's and catering in NY, MA and VT, it was obvious to me immediately how cheap their food was and how they obviously cut a lot of corners. They tried to not give us an invoice--we were offered a photo of the post-it they wrote our order down on. Additionally, we were nickle and dimed at the last minute when it would be too late to find alternative. And to a grieving family celebrating someone who dedicated her life to serving the undeserved, first as a teacher in Winooski, then founding Vermont Kin as Parents. When we tried to bring our issues to their attention, we got no response, no refund, no apology, nothing. Disgusting business practices, especially for a company that advertises as a family business. Not any family I 'd ever want to be a part of--bullies!The only good thing about the meal: the Italian dressing for the antipasto salad--which was 90% iceberg lettuce with a very thin layer of meat, cheese, olives, tomatoes and onions on top--which was gone after about ten people served themselves. And then it was just lettuce. The broccoli chicken Alfredo was missing the broccoli and barely had enough sauce to coat half the pasta. Again, having worked banquets and catering, I know that with sauces like Alfredo, you over sauce it or send along quarts of sauce to supplement the evaporation that inevitably happens in chaffing dishes. There wasn 't enough sauce to begin with, let alone by the time we ate it. And all the black pepper in the world couldn 't make it flavorful. The veggie lasagna had a handful of pieces of soggy (most likely frozen) broccoli stems for the entire pan. It was just cheese lasagna, not veggie lasagna. False advertising 100%.Oh, and the fun part, after months of planning and talking to them, the week of her service, we were informed there was a $30 delivery fee--to drive it from their factory in Milton to the Milton Eagle 's Club--a five minute trip according to Google. Oh, and how much did we want to tip the driver as well? After making what would come out to $360/hr! What a rip off. With over $40,000,000 in real estate holdings, clearly they needed that extra $30.
