This morning at Sunrise grill my wife and I joined them. As it is usually my Sunday morning duty to make breakfast I was going to be very critical as to what I was served. It was fantastic! Eggs as if I'd cooked them myself and back bacon of quality. Great coffee and home fries that were fresh and didn't taste like stale oil. All in all a big thumbs up.
We visited with family and all of us had our tummies full by the end so they really serve great portions. I had the western omelette which was full of flavour. I loved the simple yet classy decor. The waiting staff was very attentive to our coffee refill needs and the owner came out to meet us as well. Overall am amazing personalized breakfast experience
We’ve been going to Sunrise Grill for years, new owners do a great job. Restaurant is kept clean and waitresses are very friendly. Good food!
Decided to pop into Sunrise Grill on the west side of town after my son’s hockey practice at the nearby Milton Sports Centre. We came in at around 11am to an almost empty dining area and had no issue finding a seat right away. The restaurant is clean with not a lot of bells and whistles in terms of the decor. It has been several years since I have had breakfast at Sunrise and understand they have undergone an ownership change over the last year. What I do remember from the last time we were in was how cheap breakfast was and the ample portions. Between my wife and I, our breakfast at the time was under $15 and that was with tax and tip! Granted, we had come in on a weekday morning. Sadly, this is no longer the case. apparently, prices on certain meals rise substantially on a weekend. Between my wife and two children this morning, our breakie came out to a whopping $54 before tip! This is unheard of for a bare bones, no frills, greasy spoon breakfast! These are the type of prices you would expect to pay at Symposium or Cora’s or Stoney’s in Oakville, but you would be getting smoked salmon and avocado and hollandaise sauce and other boujie, upscale ingredients and menu items. When I looked at my bill, it appears we were charged $2.99 per bottle of apple juice and $4.99 for five slices of bacon that we got for a side (that’s more than what we would pay for a package of bacon in the grocery store! . While I have no issue with shelling out almost $60 for breakfast, it better be worth it. This meal was unfortunately underwhelming and over priced for a standard greasy spoon breakfast that you would get at Louie’s Diner or Sunset Grill for about $15-20 cheaper. Bacon and sausages seemed pre cooked and reheated, home fries were fresh out of the deep fryer and a little over cooked and extra crispy hard and the French toast was very basic with a little icing sugar sprinkled over top and two anemic strawberries thrown on for contrast. My over easy eggs were cooked perfectly, but gone are the heaping portions I remember, where I would struggle to finish my meal and clear my plate. For $35 at McDonald’s I would have gotten more bang for my buck and certainly a much more tasty and filling meal. Our waitress was excellent and checked in on us often, refilling our coffee several times over the course of our meal. The owner/cook actually came out of the back to check on the patrons which was nice, but he looked like he was sick and tired of being sick and tired and was merely going through the motions. For a mom and pop family owned operation, Sunrise needs to decide if they want to be a true greasy spoon breakfast place or if they want to compete with the more chi-chi, posh breakfast places around town. If it’s the former, adjust your prices. If the latter, change the menu and spend some money on renovating the inside of the restaurant. Can’t see us coming back anytime soon.
