We enjoy pairing our meals with a refreshing mango lassi or a hot chai. The atmosphere is casual and straightforward, but I highly recommend this place for vegetarians or anyone wanting to explore South Indian cuisine!
While the food was delicious, the presentation could be improved compared to other Indian restaurants in Connecticut, and it operates on a self-service basis. This means you need to place your order at the counter and grab your drinks yourself. Once your food is ready, you have to pick it up from the counter as well. After your meal, you are required to dispose of your plates and utensils in the trash bin. Generally, reservations are not necessary, but if you plan to visit on a weekend or holiday, it’s a good idea to allocate extra time, as I noticed some patrons had to wait for a table even though I arrived on time. The person managing the counter was very kind and welcoming, even offering recommendations on what to try, which is something that’s not always common in the restaurant industry. Overall, it was a pleasant and cost-effective dining experience. I highly recommend Udupi Bhavan if you're looking to enjoy some authentic South Indian cuisine.
This restaurant offers incredibly authentic Indian food, and I’d even say it’s among the best I’ve had in Connecticut. While the presentation may not be fancy, you can't expect that kind of detail at this price point. If you prefer restaurants in Stamford or Darien that focus on elaborate plating and excellent customer service, just remember that you’ll likely end up with Americanized food. I drove an hour from Fairfield, and every bite was absolutely worth it. Many Indians who have moved straight into corporate America may not realize how fortunate they are to enjoy such genuine cuisine. In a world where this type of food is a rarity, it's important to appreciate what you have. If restaurants like this one start focusing on authentic dishes, they might struggle due to the community’s tendency to prioritize saving a dollar over quality. So be thankful for this place, and don’t forget to tip—15% is the minimum in the U.S. And just a side note: I won’t apologize if that offends anyone!
We have visited this place quite a bit of times and its our go to place when we go to middletown temple. We always loved the food. Its tasty, affordable and fulfilling.
A must-visit spot for fans of South Indian cuisine! They serve fantastic dosas, vadas, idlis, and even bisi bele bath! The flavors are incredibly satisfying. The vadas were delightfully crispy, and the masala dosa was simply amazing—crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. The sambar and chutney deserve high praise! However, I found the payasam to be underwhelming. Overall, it's definitely a place to try for delicious and authentic South Indian dishes!
