It only makes sense that the soul and Caribbean cultures come together in Florida. From fried chicken and collards to oxtail and cabbage, this unassuming location houses a myriad of classics that'll make any local feel right at home. Drive slow, as this place is quick to miss. You'll be glad you gave it a shot.
Had the curried chicken with rice and baked beans. 80% of the chicken was bones and the baked beans were so scalding hot I couldn't touch them until the end of my meal. They were very tasty, though.
Sooo we spent $55 dollars to order the following through Doordash. Order 1: BBQ ribs, peas rice and fry dumplings (small)Order 2: J Chicken, yellow rice and plantains (small)Drink: Fruit punchThe food arrives and the first order is fine. In order 2, we actually received bbq chicken, sweet potatoes and potato salad. We also did not receive the drink. When we called, they said they would replace the 2nd order and have everything ready if we could pick it up. Cool. No empathy or anything extra was offered for the inconvenience. No biggie. Upon arrival, they tried to convince us that the bbq chicken showed was really J Chicken and that the side of peas rice shown was really their yellow rice. It was really a disappointment. The rice was not even remotely yellow. The chicken was smothered in bbq sauce and didn't have an authentic j taste. If they don't know how to make real j chicken or yellow rice, don't list it on the menu and try to pass it off for something else. It's really absurd that they think people don't know the difference and extremely dishonest and unethical for them to blatantly lie about it. I ordered peas rice in the first order and the rice was obviously identical and tasted the same. We also got bbq chicken in our very first order with them (a week ago) and wanted to try the j this time so we also knew it was also the same bbq chicken. I'll pay any amount for food if I want it but this second time doing business with Oley's was an attempted ripoff and definitely not worth the $55 with Doordash if you decide to have it delivered. They need to pay attention when preparing orders and be honest about the items on the menu. It's unfortunate that we have to deal with an experience like this on a good Sunday afternoon when we should be enjoying our food right now. Hopefully they make some changes.
Great little spot for soul food, I love all their sides- especially the Lima beans Go check them out!
