While visiting the Grand Western Canal from Kent, we stumbled upon this hidden gem of a restaurant. I ordered the Prawn Sandwiches and my husband opted for a baguette. The food arrived in a timely manner, despite it being lunchtime and the restaurant being quite busy. The sandwiches were delicious and generously filled. The only downside was that my iced coffee with two scoops of ice cream was actually warm, which was disappointing on a hot day when I was hoping for a refreshing drink. There were also no ice cubes in the coffee. However, overall it was a lovely lunch experience, topped off by enjoying an ice cream each before we left.
The service at this restaurant was terrible. We waited almost thirty minutes for two cups of tea, one coffee, and a piece of cake. After expressing our frustration, our order finally arrived at our table. Unfortunately, the cake was frozen and inedible. Despite there being several staff in the kitchen, it seemed like no one knew how to manage time efficiently and get orders out quickly. Even a simple order like ours had to wait until larger orders were completed. It would have been helpful to have someone dedicated to pouring tea and serving cake promptly. When we complained about the frozen cake, the manager or owner offered a refund, seeming surprised when we accepted. His excuse was that it had been busy, but if you're in the catering business, you should be able to handle orders better. This was our first and last visit to this restaurant.
Not much choice fir coeiacs. A brownie or an orange sponge. Not ideal. As usual mire choice for cegans who choose to be so. Coeliacs dont make the choice to be coeliac. Such a shame cafes dont offer much. Dont offer alternatice milk here either for anyone dairy intolerant other than oat milk....but its not gluten free either.
Fine for standard fare such as drinks, tea/coffee and scones, jam cream. Nice home made lemonade. Far too long a wait for sandwiches or salad >25min and >20 min after arrival of other items ordered by the rest of the party) so we ended up cancelling that order and leaving. Whilst there are signs saying be patient during busy periods it wasn’t an acceptable wait.
