Shorty’s takes a purist approach to BBQ, meaning they don’t overload their meats with sauce or rubs, allowing for an authentic meaty flavor that stands out on its own. Be sure to ask for Shorty’s Sauce, which is a unique BBQ sauce that pairs wonderfully with nearly everything on the menu. They also serve the best crinkle-cut fries I’ve ever had. Additionally, they’re one of the few places that offer pork steak, which is absolutely incredible—tender and bursting with BBQ flavor. It really surprises me that other restaurants don’t offer this cut of pork. 2. **Excellent Service:** The staff is laid-back and very friendly, creating a welcoming environment. 3. **Great Atmosphere:** The long communal tables and various wall decorations give Shorty’s a distinctive vibe that adds to the overall experience. 4. **Affordable Prices:** Shorty’s is one of the rare BBQ places where you can enjoy generous portions and great flavor for under $20 per person, including drinks, tax, and tip. Seriously, a 32oz Amber Bock draft is only $6 (as of 2021). **Neutral Points:** 1. **Chicken:** Given their purist approach, the chicken can be somewhat bland, although it's still moist and satisfying. However, there are certainly better options on the menu, like the pork steak. 2. **Brisket:** While it’s among the best briskets I’ve tasted in the South, it simply doesn’t compare to authentic Texas brisket. It’s good, but for the absolute best, you’ll have to head to Austin, Texas. **Summary:** You must visit THIS Shorty’s; it’s a must-try in Miami. Don’t forget to get Shorty’s sauce (you can purchase it by the pint if you enjoy it as much as I do) and be sure to order the pork steak. Enjoy the experience!
While they were showcasing ribs and sports on TV, the disappointment of not having beer lingered. The spare ribs were tasty, and their celery-seeded sweet and sour coleslaw was as delightful as ever, accompanied by buttery, sweet corn. However, the pork steaks were slightly overcooked, lacking juice and dryness, with mild seasoning and just a hint of char-smoke flavor. The wings were hearty and well-prepared. Though iced tea and lemonade were on the menu, the absence of beer was hard to overlook. Our server, Edna, with 20 years of experience handling discerning diners, was entertaining and attentive. My brother and I first dined here in 1959, long before the dreadful fire captured in one of the photos. Now, the restaurant is under new ownership, marking the end of an era for an old dining companion. **Note:** I was informed that the beer shortage is temporary.
Really Loving this place. Always a go to for great barbecue and amazing chicken. Service is always impeccable and great casual spot for quality barbecue in the heart of Miami. If you?ve never been you definitely want to try it out.
This is another BBQ spot, and I believe it’s the first location before they expanded to other places. The atmosphere is casual and the space is not very large. You sit at long communal tables where the staff takes care of you. While you wait for your food, you can enjoy a large jar of beer. The brisket and ribs are outstanding, and the service is great as well.
Exceptional customer service. Food was good over all. The ribs were great and flavorful and the kids burger was really good. The corner bread was outstanding and my favorite thing. I was a little let down by the mac and cheese- was a little bland. But aside from that there?s lot of cool historical pictures on the walls and food comes out fast.
