More like a Cafe, But much better food. Downside is that the immigrants use it, . Hang around The Park opposite. Otherwise, clean tables cutlery. Very affordable eats with reasonable prices
My friends and I were in Messina on our way back from a small village on top of the mountain, Serro. I had just found a cousin I didn't know existed. I am from America). We were all exhausted when we came upon the restaurant. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a very friendly waitress who understood what we were saying and who explained the menu to us. It was refreshing since we were staying in Palermo and the wait staff was not friendly. The food was delicious. Some of us had the pizza which was fantastic. One of us had a hamburger that had fries in the bun and she said it was fantastic as well. The prices were very reasonable. It was a great experience.
On our way to Syracuse, me and my brother, 2 Australian tourists, stayed in Messina close to the train station. We found Tania's just up from our hotel and stopped for tea not expecting much. Well, it was probably the best pizza I've had since being in Italy 2 weeks) and I was served by the friendliest and most helpful guy. He gave us a map, showed us the highlights of Messina and turned our stay into a sightseeing one, not a stop off on the way to Syracuse one.
Ok, maybe just a pearl but you must visit this little place. We were wandering around lost, asked the busy guy (owner? for directions, he comes out hands me a map and proceeds to quickly show me (in Italian where we were and says caio and goes back to work! With kindness of this sort I had to buy something! Its one of those places you would normally walk by. Cautious at first I noticed the vegetable guy was bringing in cases of fresh baby eggplant and fantastic fresh plum tomatoes and the prettiest zucchini. In here! Sure enough the girl says 6 euro's 1 plate full. Wow. behind the glass was a whole selection of freshly made antipasto. Stuffed eggplant, Swordfish in Tomatoes and olives, eggplant parmesan, fresh green beans, marinated pumpkin, etc,etc.. AT A LITTLE Pizza JOINT!! just around the corner from the Train station. WE LOVED IT. Unpretentious, simple traditional Sicilian food.
