Old Road - MESCALERO

The Mexican restaurant Old Road is situated along a stretch of the highway that was rerouted when the road to Ruidoso was expanded. From the delicious homemade chips and salsa to the beautiful view of horses grazing outside, this is the perfect spot for a quick lunch or dinner. We have been coming here for 10 years and have always enjoyed the consistently delicious food and friendly staff. My family stumbled upon this gem while traveling to Tularosa and it quickly became my mother's go-to spot for spicy, traditional dishes and my father's favorite spot to find the perfect chili relleno. Personally, I always opt for the sour cream enchiladas with green sauce, as a gringo from Arizona who struggles on the Sodburn Express.

I absolutely love The Old Road Restaurant. The food is always delicious, especially the red cheese enchiladas.

Best Mexican food in this area. Chili Rellenos were amazing! Don't be in a hurry, it is worth the wait. Very reasonable prices.

Many years ago, a friend recommended this restaurant. They said it is hard to find it and gave us very good directions. We loved it! Every year we come to the Ruidoso area, we make sure to stop in for their Rellenos. My husband's favorite. They are struggling through Covid, just like everyone else and, yet, are still making delicious Mexican food at reasonable prices! We will be back!
