Tregenna - Merthyr Tydfil

The Tregenna used to be a fantastic spot for Sunday lunch, but in the last two months, things have taken a disappointing turn. Many loyal customers have been deterred by the decline in food quality and have started going elsewhere. Immediate action is needed to address this issue, otherwise, these loyal patrons may not come back. It is suggested to bring back the previous chef.

This restaurant used to be one of the best in the area, but it has deteriorated in quality. The carrots are huge and tough, the cauliflower is hard, and the large unpeeled potatoes are tasteless. The stuffing tastes cheap, the gravy is mediocre, and the Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes lack flavor. It's disappointing to see such a lovely place go downhill.

My family and friends went to Tregenna for Sunday lunch. It had been seven years since my wife and I last visited, having previously been regulars for nearly thirty years. We had stopped going due to the hotel looking shabby and outdated. However, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the hotel had undergone a makeover and now looked bright and clean. We initially booked a table for four in the main restaurant but a friend joined us last minute. Marissa at the bar kindly accommodated us by seating us in the smaller restaurant near the bar. The quality of our Sunday lunch was excellent and reasonably priced. My lamb main course was tasty and tender, served hot and with plenty of vegetables. The staff were friendly and helpful, although the service was a bit slow. Despite this, it was a very enjoyable experience for everyone in our party. My wife and I look forward to returning soon.

The tregenna is a family favourite and is frequently visited by regular visitors. The restaurant and public areas have recently been renovated and was well overdue but now provides a pleasant environment. The food particularly the cooked dinners are excellent and the beef is to die for. The staff are always friendly and provide excellent service to customers. It’s wise to book particularly on Sunday as main turn up for the traditional Sunday lunch. Prices are most reasonable. Parking available on site.

Arrived late afternoon was shown straight to our room. Extremely cold so turned the radiators on and only warmed up slightly at the bottom! The room itself was freezing, luckily I took my own hairdryer to had to keep that on for over an hour to warm the room up at night and in the morning. Light in the bathroom didn't work and the hairdryer provided was blowing air the wrong way out so not only did it sound like it was going to blow up but the burning smell was horrendous. Bedroom was clean, included a random sofa. Tv in the room however no remote so up and down changing channels or the volume. Cheap hotel, wouldn't recommend or return back. Very dated but in their defence without stripping the whole hotel and refurbishing the lot I am not sure what they can do with it.
