My friend found this hotel on booking.com for a last minute hiking trip. I didnt know where he had booked, but on arrival I was pleasently suprised. Its suitation is welcoming, raised above road level and at night its lights make it look welcoming. On arrival, we got a bit lost trying to find the receiption desk, ending up in the bar but staff further in the building noticed us and came immediatly to check us in. She explained about dinner, breakfast, free wifi etc, and we found her to be very welcoming. Decor is dated but all areas nice and clean. Some rust to pipework in bathroom slight mould to grouting but overall very clean and tidy appearance. The lighting was a little too dim and the room was initially very cold on entering but we got used to this and didnt turn out to be a problem. We had to go downstairs to ask for wifi code, and I personally feel a notice of this along with a menu placed in each room would be useful. The bed was lovely and comfortable, and wether it was the days hiking or the bed- we both had a sound sleep!Breakfast was enjoyed very much by both of us. Staff were very attentive and didnt seem fed up the three times I asked for more orange juice!Without a doubt if we are back in the area we would stop here. it was lovely and comfortable and welcoming- I think our favourite part was the shower- could have stopped in there all day!
Just a friendly hotel, all the staf were wonderful. Rooms were clean, if a little dated. Breakfast was freshly made when u ordered , loads of hot water for a bath and a great shower. The tv reception is terrible so take a streaming stick as wi-go is good and free
I have visited this restaurant several times and had a great time. Tonight, my family of four, including three adults and one child, went for dinner. I asked for a child's carvery, and the young waitress questioned why as I was not a child. I explained that I was not very hungry, and she said she would make an exception this time. Unfortunately, the soup was out of stock, so I ended up ordering a child's carvery for myself, two adult carverys, and a child's nugget meal. When we arrived at the carvery deck, my sister, who was already there, informed me that the waitress had been talking negatively about me wanting a child's carvery until she noticed my sister watching. When we sat down to eat, the waitress kept a close eye on me for no apparent reason. When it came time to pay the bill, we took it to the till to pay. The chef, the young waitress, and another older waitress were all gathered around the till. The waitress asked how we wanted to pay, and when we said by card in three ways, she seemed annoyed and slammed a few things around before collecting the bill at our table. She questioned what I was paying for, and when I mentioned the child's carvery, child's nuggets, and drinks, she informed me that the waitress had been reprimanded for allowing me to order a child's carvery as it was not a usual practice. The older waitress was incredibly rude to all of us. If you are looking for a pleasant dining experience, I would recommend avoiding this place as the staff are rude.
Booked this hotel on a whim for an overnight stay travelling on our motorbike. Arrived early but the lovely lady on reception said our room was ready which was a great bonus. The room was pleasant, spacious, clean and comfy. Nice bathroom too. What more do you need? Breakfast, although very early (only till 8.30am) was plentiful and tasty. All the staff we encountered were smiley and helpful, couldn’t do enough for us. My absolute only gripe was that there was no info pack in the room. Breakfast, bar and restaurant menus and opening times as well as internet password would have been really helpful. But for £65 a night it really was a great find.
