Myself and my partner stumbled across this little place whilst exploring Pallanza. It seemed popular with locals which is a great sign. Our waitress was very helpful and spoke great English which helped us being obviously clueless in Italian. She took the time to explain the menu to us and offered us drinks. We had a fantastic starter of melon and meats which came with a beautiful bread basket that must have featured five different breads. My partner had ravioli and I have beef with potatoes in red wine sauce it was so beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. We were so pleased we found villa giulia, not only was it reasonable just over 60 euros for the above food, two beers and three wines they also gave us some Italian cake and limoncello on the house. Great little place in a fabulous setting. Don't miss it!
What should have been started as a delicious lunch to enjoy at the beautiful Lago Magiore, became a big disappointment. The dishes were just a little too salty, the meat was just undercooked, the service was polite but very distant, but the real problem arose when the bill was asked. When entering the bar it appeared that payment could only be done by cash money. The behavior of the lady who served us was unseemly, she refused every kind of bankpass, whether it would be a Mastercard or a Eurocard and shouted that she only wanted **** cash , what we obviously didn 't have at that moment. So we had to find an ATM counter to pay the bill. This was a nasty finish of what should have been a nice lunch.
The bar Villa Giulia is nicely located within a public garden which forms part of the grounds to the nearby Villa Giulia. We visited the Villa last week for the art exhibition, and popped into the bar for a coffee and snack. Service was quick and friendly and was reasonably priced. Definitely one to be recommended if you are visiting the villa.
Although our time in Pallanza was short, we went to this little bar every afternoon for drinks and appetizers. Our waitress Addie was a treasure and we found that the staff was friendly and she spoke English which was very helpful. It was nice seeing the locals go about their business, the children play, and fishermen along the beautiful lake. This place is not fancy but it is my style! They made the best Spritz so far... I will be back again in 2 years and look forward to doing it all over again.
