Pizzeria La Pignatta - Mendrisio

A family favourite for years, a little bit tucked away......once you enter into the hotel you still need to make your way to the back where a wood fired oven and a professional pizzaiolo await. Great selection of pizzas, impeccably prepared. The pizzas are geared to a local crowd that is very harsh in its assessments and the pizzeria is full every evening. Service is very professional, with 'old hands ' showing that serving is a real profession, executed with passion.

As I arrived quite late in Mendrisio, I could only use the pizzeria services of this restaurant. I ordered a pizza Ticino , with pieces of luganighette (local sausage), which I washed down with a glass of local white wine. The pizza and wine were impeccable. I paid the whole, with the addition of a water bottle, 30 CHF. Which I thought was the upper limit of normal, also in relation to the Swiss prices (this could be a reason for an average rating). Friendly and fast service.
