Me and my friend popped by today and I sat outside on one of the chairs, while my friend was going to go in and order some food and drinks for us both. 10 seconds after sitting down a young lady came outside and promptly told me that the outside chars was for customers only and that they had to clean the seats every someone sits in them. My reply to her in shock of finding out the hassle of them having to wipe the seats (because of the whole covid situation) I said: ohh you 're joking? That must and before I could even finish my sentence the young woman loudly said No, don 't be so rude! To mine and my friends confusion, I stood up and kindly moved the seat back as I could see she was extremely angry (for some strange reason) and I said I really wasn 't being rude to which she replied Yes you are. me and my friend couldn 't believe the attitude of this woman, who was supposed to be 'friendly staff '. I have never in all my life been treated so badly and made to feel so unwelcome at a pub. Whatever chip she had on her shoulder that day really showed, she should not be at front of house if that is how she treats customers. The place looked dead, it 's no wonder they don 't have any customers if that 's how they are treated. Will not be coming here ever again, will not recommend to anyone and my suggestion is avoid avoid avoid. Such a shame. I went to university in melton for 5 years... used to be such a lovely, welcoming place.
Unbelievably slow service! Pub was almost empty, nobody eating, yet it took half an hour to get 3 x baguettes!! In fairness the ham was very good, but why so slow???
Cosy little pub but the food is the worst I 've ever had in a pub and the service was almost the worst. I went in with my wife,my daughter and my grandson. It was busy which is usually a good sign. I am disabled so my daughter went to the bar our cold drinks were served up immediately but our coffee took at least 20 minutes and mine tasted like cheap instant. We persevered and eventually food began arriving two plates between 4 people one with 2 cheeseburgers the other with 2 hot pork cobs. Burgers were almost completely cold and the edges were crunchy. The pork rolls were disgusting almost freezing cold half slice òf pork the stuffing tasted like it had just come out of the fridge. We started eating because we were very hungry and service was so slow we didn 't want to interrupt them as we were still waiting for chips that came with the burgers. Eventually one very small dish of chips some were warm some of them were raw. Now we decided we had to complain my daughter managed to catch barmaid as she was dropping some fodder for another victim. She said sorrry I will get my parents from upstairs another wait then a lady turned up sat down I started to explain what was wrong and why we were unable to eat especially look warm pork as this can carry disease.she didn 't wait for me to finish just interrupted and said all I can do is apologise . I asked her to try one of the chips she just repeated her statement twice more she did not say anything else at all. I was gobsmacked and just looked at her and walked out before I lost my temper. To summarise disgusting food and appalling customer service DO NOT EAT HERE
There is nothing gastropub about this place but it's incredibly popular at lunchtime with its cheap pub grub. When we finally managed to get a table we ordered the Melton platter which consisted of Stilton, Red Leicester, a picked onion, pickles, coleslaw, warm rolls and a salad garnish (we asked for no pork pie or meat which is an option). It was nice. The staff were busy but after clearing the table for us to sit at, it was never wiped. Not good. On the whole though a nice quick visit.
