It was worth the drive! We knew in advance that it was cash only, and that they didn't have their liquor license, but that didn't deter us from having a fabulous meal. In fact, not having any wine with dinner meant that nobody had to worry about drinking and driving back to Collingwood. Everything we ordered (we all tasted each other's choices) was amazing, but the foccacia was outstanding, as was the Caprese salad. Next time I'm invited to a pot luck dinner, I'm going to drive to Meaford to pick up some of the foccacia as my contribution, that's how good it was!As delicious as the dinner was, (honourable mention to the chicken cacciatore and the arancini) the dessert was even better! I'm not one to use superlatives, but the cherry pie was the best I've ever tasted. Three out of the four of us had it, and it was so good that my friend and I had to watch the looks on the faces of our husbands as they tried it. I'm looking forward to going back so I can introduce others to this hidden gem.NOTE: Check their Facebook page before going. They have a chalkboard menu and often post what they're serving for dinner, and don't forget to bring cash. I don't think they have their debit/credit system up and running yet.
My husband and I share the Calamari. I will never share it again :) I had wonderful Chicken Cacciatore. My husband had Osso Buco - he didn't leave a bite. Very busy at the restaurant - when they get their liquor license, it will be impossible to get a table.Love Fran - fabulous host.
Loved the food. Terrible service. We waited over 2 hours for our meal. The Owner basically ignored us and did not take responsibility. She was downright hostile at one point and blamed us.....NOT the way to treat customers or run a business. A simple, "sorry we are having trouble in the kitchen", or "here is a discount for next time" or comping a dessert, ANYTHING would have been helpful. Not sure if I will go back.
I lived for a time in Italy and until last night, I've never found a restaurant that serves authentic fare like you get in Italy. I was blown away by the food at Gio and Fran's. The mussels were the best I've ever had, period! They were so good in fact, we wanted to lick the bowl because the sauce was that good! Meaford has lucked out in having a restaurant like this in their town! Get yourself there and try it for yourself!
I am no stranger to Fran's foccacia, but this was my first time eating in. The food was delicious and every effort was made to accommodate my food intolerance and my need to be on a timeline this particular night. Fran was so very gracious about all of this. I enjoyed the gnocchi and took a couple of foccacia with me for family who could not be there. I know it takes time for a business to catch on, but in my opinion, when customers did not support this new little place at lunchtime, Meaford lost something really good. Still, they ARE open for dinner, folks, so give yourself a treat and drop in for their warm welcome and excellent fare.
