Homemade pastas and warm, wonderful service. Only ordered pastas Fettucini Funghi Porcini (Fettucini with mushrooms, very good) and Penne al Pomodoro e Basilico (best of the pastas, fresh pasta with an excellent white wine sauce with tomatoes and fresh basil). Will be back again to try some other dishes and dessert.
We stopped in off season without reservations on Friday evening at opening time (7:30 . The two of us were traveling with our small dog. We were able to get a table right away. The lady serving us was extremely hospitable, nicely bringing us an a English menu, but still engaging with us in our poor Italian when we tried : We only ordered a simple dinner two pastas (fettuccine cinghale and fettuccine asparagi e salcicce and table wine plus a dessert but we loved every bit of it. Portions were generous (husband devoured his and I have leftovers : . Nothing was fancily presented but the taste was just SO good it speaks for itself ! and the atmosphere very warm, it was the perfect end to a day sightseeing in the hilly area. We appreciate that they are dog friendly, too. One note only that while they do accept credit cards, the machine wasn’t working while we were there. Luckily we had enough cash and there was no problem at all. Remember when you’re visiting Calcata that it is a remote place with some technology limitations due to the preservation of the beautiful ancient town, so take some cash with you and don’t rely only on credit cards. Thank you Gatto Nero for a very lovely dinner!
There are cats everywhere in this place. A few real ones but then there are pics, figures and all kind of other cat stuff! Besides this rather peculiar interior this little restaurant offers some solid pasta dishes and is well worth a visit.
The black dairy of the cat is a typical and very special restaurant located in a small town perched on a rock spur. despite the local is not very large is very well cared for in detail. with its covered in white and red squares and everywhere cats: cloth, plush, headdress, pillow drawings and hanging on the walls numerous paintings with portraits of cats of all kinds. I mean, cats are mastering it. the place is cozy, as are the managers and the kitchen is great. While you eat you will taste flavors of old homemade recipes. appetizers, excellent polenta in various recipes, good also handmade fettuccina with porcini mushrooms, wild boar. not to lose pork collars with apples, orange arista and scarola with raisins and pine nuts. finish with always strictly homemade desserts like tart and chocolate and brown cake and finish a good coffee. the dip watered by excellent wines. ends with a good coffee and artisan liquor. at the end of the meal is recommended a nice walk to the alleys, which will make you want to return to this place that seems firm in time.
Absolutely one of the best culinary experiences I had in all italy. the owners were very friendly. our whole food was absolutely amazing. can not recommend this location enough.
