Hakka King - Markham

Food was very good, except the chilli paneer which was too chewy and dry Service was good. The staff very friendly

We had dinner here for the third time now. Food was as good as prior visits. Had to come back to have the Crispy Beef again. Crispy Beef is amazing, crispy, sweet, flavourfull, much better than the "other" Hakka place next door. The Chili Chicken (dry version) and the Chicken Cantonese Chow Mein were also excellent. Prices are very reasonable and wait staff are very friendly. Can't wait to go back.

I've visited Hakka King about 4 times now and I have to say that the dishes always taste the same. Their Bombay mutton and chicken pakora are very good. I always get schezwan fried rice at any hakka chinese restaurant, theirs is one of my favorite - good flavour and freshness (in Feddricks I find the peas hard most of the time, which really turns me off).

The place is conveniently located in the same plaza as my son's UCMAS class, so we have been a regularly in this place. They make good chilli paneer which is my son's favorite. Off late their service has been the worst I have ever seen. When we first visited the place we were served by a Chinese man who very attentive and polite and we liked his service. I havent seen him around lately and service has detoriated considerably. The service is very very slow. At times there is only 1 server taking order/ cleaning table/ bringing dishes etc. and they almost always forget to provide water / enough cutlery etc... From the time you place your order to you get your first dishes it is more than an hours wait....Being a family with young children ,it gets very difficult to keep the kids occupied for so long. They donot carry some of the item on the menu all the time(for eg wanton soup) and if you order those items.....after some 20-25 mins when you are expecting to get the soup, the server will get back to you saying it is not available/ to change the order.... The place frequently advertises some specials (boldly displayed in the restaurant ), but they inadvertently charge you regular price for it, if you donot ask about the promotion.....If you do ask abt it ,instead of being apologetic they behave like they are doing you a favour.... A couple dollars off the bill doesnot make a difference to me, but the attitude does.... We are usually very tolerant and empathetic, but the attitude of the staff,despite the sloppy service, is unacceptable...... There are many good hakka chinese restaurant in the area ( Fedrick, tangerine,china cottage) with much better service... We will not visit this place again...

Food used to be good, but it's gone down-hill over the last 2yrs. No wonder they have to use Groupons to get customers.Service has been decent consistently, but the food has been erratic since Fall 2015. The waitress suggested that their chef quit, so they brought in a new chef.We've had their lunch specials and dinner menus, and the food's quality has been on a constant slide downhill.Not only are their no longer as spicy as they used to be, they're bland (un-salted) too. That along with excessive amounts of MSG is killing it!!
