Bâton Rouge Steakhouse - Markham

Throughout our meal, no one checked in to see if we wanted refills on our drinks. After finishing, we waited 20 minutes for our server to bring the bill, but we had tickets to the Leafs game and couldn’t wait any longer. We asked another team member for assistance, but a completely different person came over instead. Overall, it was one of the more disappointing meals we've had in a while. My wife and I were hoping to find a new favorite dining spot but regretted our choice this time. I hope this was just an off night, as other tables seemed to be receiving great service, and we did enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant.

My salad was extremely watery due to the excessive amount of dressing. I mentioned this to the waitress towards the end of our meal when she finally came to check on us, but after that, it was even more difficult to get her attention for the bill. It was a $35 meal, and I could only eat part of it because there was just too much dressing. However, the steak in the salad was very good.

We’ve visited this location numerous times, and it has always been great—until tonight (11/25/23). We sat in the lounge, as usual, and were served by Viktoria, the bartender. Our drinks and appetizers arrived quickly, but we ended up waiting an hour for our main course despite there being many empty tables in the bar area. My wife ordered her favorite salmon dish, but when we got home, her stomach became very upset, and she was sick all night and into the next day. This has been one of our favorite spots, but after this experience, I’m not sure we’ll be returning.

Baton Rouge is as good as it gets in neighborhood dining. It costs about the same as downtown steak houses but is a decent value as these things go. The ambience is great and our waiter was outstanding. We had lobster tails and ribs, both fine, and shared an excellent chocolate cake dessert. For a fine mainstream dining experience in Markham, Baton Rouge is a satisfying choice.

They need to better define key allergens in menu. No indication of gluten or dairy. Waiter did not know answers and consulted a book. We then read the book and discovered he had read it wrong. A little frustrating but he was very good natured and apologetic
