Cancela Velha - Marco De Canaveses

The service os incredible, we had the pleasure of being received by the owner and his son Miguel, and what an incredible family… the mother coordinates the kitchen and the food is incredible, the wine is the best of the Portuguese brands with a nice touch of tasting experience due to Miguel’s passion for wine he shares with us the best options. The meat was incredibly well prepared and the desert superb. This is a must be and we will for sure be back.

Traditional food is good, and the place is comfortable inside. Good space for families however the service quality wasn't great missed orders, long wait times, wine bottle not opened at the table. Staff is friendly still.

While staying elsewhere in the DuoroValley, we decided to explore nearby Marco de Canaveses. We came upon this restaurant by chance to have a late lunch. What a gem! We were greeted warmly. Knowing we were tourists, they were very helpful on navigating the menu. We started with a lovely platter of meats, cheese, olives and bread with red wine. Delicious. Then a dish of cod fritter was offered. Just fantastic. We ordered grilled cod and fried cod al la Braga. OMG the flavors, texture and presentation were outstanding. Finished with espresso and the local cake and were satiated. Very much recommend this establishment.

Hoje fui almoçar com meus pais na Cancelha Velha e foi uma experiência incrível. Começando pelo Sr. Manuel Monteiro foi um anfitrião fantástico com muita energia e alegria. Depois pediu o típico assado de domingo português Anho que é um borrego de primavera e ficou excelente nota 10, parabéns aos Chefs! Depois as sobremesas, todas caseiras, todas parecem deliciosas mas têm um sabor ainda melhor. E por último, mas não menos importante, o vinho tinto da casa, produzido no vale do Douro, era óptimo. Eu recomendaria  Cancela Velha sem hesitação. Definitivamente voltarei na minha próxima visita a Portugal.

I love my experience in this restaurant. eating was great and not to mention the good order of all the workers who served me.
