One of the few places in Metro Manila that serve German cuisine. On a normal day, service is okay but our most recent visit Father's Day was quite bad as they were understaffed for the first 2 hours. Just brushed it off given that the staff were still courteous. As usual, their German sausages were savory delicious but we were very disappointed with how the currywurst and käsespätzle tasted bland. Another disappointment for me was finding out that they discontinued serving sauerkraut why??? : Sausages made up for the disappointment as well as discovering how their veal schnitzel and fladen with smoked salmon tasted really good.
We came 7pm on a Sunday night I understand that it was busy and I don't blame the servers and waiters but it seems like they have no sense of urgency or direction I have been observing them for an hour and we are still missing our drinks and a couple of plates for my whole party. I blame the management team since they are nowhere to be found at the store or at least try to make sure everything is running smooth. I am a restaurant manager as well so I know how to take care of my store but this store lacks most of the basics of running a restaurant and it's actually insulting.
BROTZEIT is a German restaurant that aims to promote quality German Beers and Bavarian cuisine. Brot means bread and zeit translates to time in German. So, it means bread time or snack time . Well, when I brought my dad and my brother here, we were ready feast! My dad loooves German food Beer. We have family lunch every Sunday; he makes a point to have a German-themed lunch once a month. So, it was no surprise that he wanted to order his favorites. He started the meal with Goulash Soup (Php190, 4.11USD . He let us try a few spoonfuls and it was peppery hearty, very good! Instead of having to order different dishes, we all agreed to order the Brotzeit Platter which was good for 4-5 persons...we were 3 (Php2500, 54USD ! hahaha! The platter includes Pork Knuckle, Sausages, Schnitzels (opted for the pork , and 2 sides (chose the Spaetzle Rotkraut . The sausages ranged from spicy chicken, grilled pork, pork cheese, pork and veal and garlic pork. One portion of pork knuckles will be too much for 1 person, but sufficient for 2-3 people. The pork knuckle which was prepared perfectly. Crispy on the outside and falling off the bone soft on the inside. : The Schnitzels were HUUUGE! But, they were so juicy and soft. All it needed was a sprinkle of lemon juice. Overall, the food was great and enough to go around. The atmosphere was good. We were surprised that the place was packed on a Thursday night. Overall, this was a positive experience and my dad highly recommends it! Be sure to bring a large group. Next time, I will try their beers :
Something that's not big in Manila are German beer bars, and it is said that they are one of the best beer brewers in the world. So, here comes Brotzeit Bier Bar and Restaurant (trivia: it means snack time in German), located right in front of Shangri-La Plaza. At Brotzeit, they serve all variations of Paulaner (my personal favourite), beer mixes, an assortment of wine, cocktails, food (appetizers, main courses, platters/for sharing and even desserts). Brotzeit is a place I would personally recommend that you go during the late afternoon because of it's location. Prior to that, service is great. There is always someone outside, ready to seat you and your friends, and to take your order in a snap.
