Hambone - Mandeville

The food and service are phenomenal. We love this little gem in mandeville. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because it is sooooo uncomfortably hot inside the building.....they need fans in the rooms or maybe window units. Sweating while eating wasn't fun. This restaurant has a warm and unpretentious atmosphere. I didn't think twice when I ordered the chicken sandwich, boudin, and gumbo – just a quick bite before heading to church. The chicken sandwich was absolutely amazing; the flavor was perfect! I rushed to the kitchen to find out who had prepared it, only to discover that the chef resembled Seth Rogen. This guy is like a culinary magician. There’s something extraordinary about his cooking, bursting with flavor! Even though I'm not usually a fan of gumbo, his version, paired with potato salad, changed my perspective completely. I really hope this place keeps this chef, because if he makes his way to LA, New York, or Chicago, he’ll surely become very successful. The food was simply the best I've ever had, and I’m nearing 50!

Absolutely fantastic! I ordered the fried green tomato sandwich, and it was truly one-of-a-kind and delicious. I will definitely be back. Everything we sampled—fried chicken, gumbo, and the bean and tahini dip with plantains—was outstanding! The atmosphere is perfect for kids; mine had a great time playing while we waited for our food (which didn't take long at all, even on a busy Sunday), and they continued to enjoy themselves afterwards.

The burger was decent, but at $16, it didn't feel worth the price. The fries, which they refer to as tater logs, were more like wedges and there were just a few slices. The fried chicken was generous (a half-chicken), but it was extremely greasy. It seemed like it went straight from the fryer to the plate without any oil being drained off.

This place had one of the best gumbo I've had in a long time. Rich in flavor and texture. It is quite autentic. The Luke's Chicken sandwich was surprisingly delicious. The chicken was juicy and the breading crispy. The surprising portion was how the unique toppings worked so well with each other. The chocolate bar was absolutely worth the extra time. Micheal was a great example of what wonderful waiter. Promot, observant, and friendly.
