The two of us had an excellent three-course menu and a bottle of Arbois wine for €95. Dessert and pastries seem to be the passion of the cook. The cakes and cakes on the breakfast buffet alone were the reason to come back.
I was part of a big group that had stopped here, I went to coffee. The waitress was visibly frustrated at the number of people who at once, albeit only for coffee, so not a suitable place for unplanned groups really.... Although, when served, the coffee was okay, but one of our group thought it could be immediately what would have been disappointed.
I ate for the first time there in january and had a very pleasant experience. So I decided to go back there yesterday for our wedding anniversary. Well, guess what, it was even better ! We arrived early because it was on a sunday and...the weather was fine, so we decided to have a look at the surroundings and went for a walk around the lake. The scenery is very nice, we really enjoyed the walk and it was a perfect way to whet our appetite. We took menu gourmand with foie gras and duck as a main course. Everything was cooked perfectly, the tastes were absolutely great. For the dessert I really recommend the option that gives you access to the whole dessert buffet, everything is so good in there that you will feel like a lion after eating a whole zebra. They have a very fine selection of wines but a bottle is too much for us two, so we took our wine by the glass which is a fine formula as it allows you to change wines according to what you eat and still be able to drive home afterwards. We had an excellent meal, and I also recommend the place because it is opened on sundays and because the staff is really friendly. They make you feel home. At this point it can hardly get better, except that the whole meal for two cost us 111. euros which is extremely fair. So once again, no hesitation, go there in the afternoon on a sunny day, enjoy the lake and the nice scenery and top it up with a meal at the restaurant Le Lac you will have had a perfect day.
As I already said, finding an opened restaurant in Switzerland on a sunday is difficult. Especially if you are looking for a good table. So, for my wife 's birthday, I was a little desperate, until a collegue told me about Hotel du lac in Malbuisson...and its restaurant. Although I am not far away from the border, I generally do not think about french restaurants, but they tend to be opened on sundays, are slightly cheaper than the swiss ones, and provide some good food too ! The village of Malbuisson is pretty, it nears a small mountain lake, and the Hotel is easy to find more or less in the center. Parking is no problem. The restaurant has style, actually Louis XVI style to be very precise, have a look at their web site, you will see, it is quite spectacular (there is a 360° view on the site) ! The food is very good, there are several menus as well as a la carte . I strongly advise the meat which was beautiful, especially with the mushroom sauce. The restaurant also has a wide selection of wines and you can have quality advice on this too. They accept reservations as well as special orders, I had a chocolate cake made for the birthday occasion and it was delicious ! Service is present but non obstrusive and quite fast. All in all this is an excellent experience that I strongly advise. And is shows great value for the price.
