Unlike what a previous reviewer said, I don’t think this is a “desolate” place at all. The landscape here is really beautiful in the summer and no place is beautiful in the winter. They have a café and books as well.
STOP AND EAT HERE Do yourself a favour and be sure to stop here for the fish and chips. They are very good. Jay told my wife and I that he had a new crispy batter and wanted our opinion. The batter was very light and crispy. It retained its crispiness until the last bite disappeared. The fries were very good (not frozen). The price was very reasonable as well. Jay was very pleasant and outgoing, we had. A nice chat when we told him how much we enjoyed our lunch, we sat a table outside overlooking the water. Of course we couldn’t just have fish and chips, we went for the ice cream as well, 12 flavours and also soft serve available. Extremely generous portions were given. This is a stop worth making.
Great little store. Troy, the owner, was absolutely delightful. We didn’t get to eat at his Mud Slide Cafe (he can’t find cook that’ll work on Monday’s) so we were a little disappointed. The ratings for this cafe are almost all five out of five. Wish we could have dined there! Oh well...next time. Be sure to give this general store a visit. Well worth the stop.
Had a wonderful dinner this evening at Frieze Roy. About 20 of us gathered for a private dinner party. We were served a very nice pulled pork dinner with homemade garlic bread, roasted potatoes, squash cold slaw, all in very large portion and amazing taste. This was followed by a desert of a generous serving of blueberry cheese cake, vanilla ice cream and a fruit compote served in a boat shaped dish. We were seated within COVID19 guidelines served by courteous staff in a timely fashion. Before leaving the owner came out to thank us invite us to return. Return we shall it was a very good experience. This is an historic building serving the community since 1836, not posh but a great place to stop for a lunch or supper. It has a liquor franchise shop within and should be able to add wine to their menu in the near future. Or if you forgot your beverage for your picnic stop here pick one up.
Loved stopping here after tidal bore rafting with friends and family. Gorgeous spot in the back to eat your food and watch the tide come and go. Service was slow but polite. Would give it 5 stars but the other reviews tainted my view of the place.
