The flavors were rather uninspiring until Yummy came along. My brother left some in the fridge and hungry as I was an in a rush, microwaved one on 25 seconds. Oh My Lord I had to microwave a second one because it was so dang good.Granted, they're puny compared to competitor Baos but so chock full of perfect umami flavor. I have to stop myself from eating the whole box of baos when I take them home the average rate is 3 in one sitting, because they are some yummy, yummy, yum.
I ordered a banh mi heo quay (roasted pork) for the first time. It is Ok. The bread is a bit dry. The veggies are so so. I wish they cut the pork in smaller pieces. I do like the sauce. It could be more. The staff is slow but nice. Almost always a line. So expect to wait. The banh mi is not so bad if you are hungry.
I've been coming to this place for their bao, they are one of the best around. When I visited last I noticed they have roasted pork belly for just $13 per pound. So when I visited again I got 1 pound. I have to say on this visit it was the most unpleasant one. It seems everyone who works here that spoke English took a day off. Anyway, with help from other customers I was able to get my order. I asked them not to cut my order (common advice by my Vietnamese friends). The roasted pork belly (thit heo quay) looked great but not overwhelmingly tasty. It was ok, the cheapest around. The next day was another story, the pork didn't stay crispy? So my verdict, for a quick run, yes but if I have the time I will go to the place I usually get pork belly in Tustin, less hassle and the pork stays crispy the next day. Oh and yeah, they don't give you a printout of the weight so I checked!
Yummy Bakery has one of the best Bun Baos I 've ever had. The mini size is perfect and the ratio of meat to bun is balanced. The Bun Baos are priced really well and make a perfect snack for any event or occasion. Parking is really easy and the employees are friendly. If it isn 't the best Bun Bao in the area, it 's pretty darn close to the best.
I have come here 3 times now wanting to get a box of bbq pork buns. Each time they have been out. The first time it was late so it was understandable. The last two times I have come before 2:30 and they’re out. Don’t know if it is worth coming here again.
