The Mango Man is the coolest! The vegan burrito was excellent. It's hard to find good vegan options, so usually I will just settle for whatever, but the vegan burrito was amazing. All the ingredients were super tasty, especially the fried plantains and Thony's special sauces. The tortilla smelled so good and it tasted great. As I was waiting for my food, a woman in line told me that Thony makes the tortillas from scratch. Now that's a labor of love! The food was so good that I came back the next day to get another burrito. I also got a mango mojito. It was really refreshing and had some spices in it that gave it a depth of flavor. Thony is super friendly and gives off the best vibes. If you see the Cafe Costa Rica food cart, do yourself a favor and talk to Thony and buy some of his delicious food.
We tried calling twice but no answer. Let me put this in the proper context. We spend our winters in Costa Rica and live an hour away from this restaurant. We know a thing or two about Costa Rican food. My wife is also a food and recipe evaluator for a major food magazine and website. We researched Cafe Costa Rica and decided it's not worth an hour long drive to get to a restaurant that's apparently only opened two hours a week and on a Wednesday. We long for a good cosada meal andhome made empanadas but it appears we'll have to go elsewhere...unless maybe we bump into one of their food trucks someplace and then it might be iffy if they make that stuff. Good luck in their future endeavors. It might be worthwhile for someone to assist them to create a professional business plan. There is a need for authentic Costa Rican food in the area and it could be a good mine if done right.
I would give 100 stars if I could! Cafe Costa Rica is the best food cart in Madison, imo, and Chef Thony is the nicest guy.Try the plantains!!
I could eat this food morning noon and night. Take some of those sauces home totally worth it to smother everything in it. Trust me I did for a year and a 1/2.
