We eat regularly Indonesian food when we visit family in the lowlands. this was the first time that I could enjoy it after the vegetarian / vegan years ago. it was soouu tasty and an immediate trip back to my childhood. the test was hearty and filled. the sauces had taste layers and the vegetables had a nice bite. it was a good thing that we have kept up because they were booked on Saturday night at pm. the personal was friendly, but unfortunately, even after they told us that they would bring us the free tempochips, they never did. I really wanted to try her.
We had such a delicious meal, here. We shared a few things, and it was perfect. Vegan items arent clearly marked, per se. But there are a lot of vegan options, and staff are well informed about veganism. They also have a gluten free menu, with many items being both vegan and gf. They make their own tempeh, in house, which is for sale separately, and it is incredible. The flavors are amazing. We had a soup starter with sambal, tho, which I knew was chili paste... I didn't realize til later that sambal is traditionally made with shrimp paste. I wish I would've known to ask. It didn't occur to me. For me it's not the end of the world; live and learn; but just a heads up. I posted a few pics and descriptions of our plates.
I have eaten there numerous times, and the food is always very good, service prompt. All the items on menu come in small and large size, which is great, no waste of food.
We had the Rujak Cuka and Tahu Goreng for starters. Both were boldly flavored (as I expect from Indonesian food) but still balanced and yummy. Our server explained that most things can be made vegan upon request. We stuck with what was naturally vegan already, though, as there were so many to choose from! We split the Sambal Goreng Tempe for entree and it was lovely. The tempe really was outstanding. We asked for an extra dish of fresh sambal and it took the dish over the top. Bottom line: a refreshingly different cuisine and lots of vegan options. What's not to love?
