We were in Luzerne for the first of several nights in business and, due to jet lag, I found myself hungry at 11pm. After walking the deserted streets for a bit, I found Rote Perle. While it took just a bit of time for initial service (the owner was the sole person present and he was cooking) the wait was worth it. It was suggested to me that if I wanted a pita that I try the cheese filled variety. It was excellent and fairly affordable by Swiss standards. I recommend Rote Perle, especially for you late night owls as it is open to Midnight on weekdays.
Don't tell my mother in law, but the lovely couple who run this modest restaurant make the best Bosnian food I've eaten outside of Bosnia (where I lived for a few years a while ago). They specialise in pita long rolls of thin dough filled with either cheese, spinach, meat or potato and do them really, really well. Their bean stew is also very good, as is their homemade bread. Have a Turkish coffee to round off your meal. The place is spotless, and while the location isn't particularly nice on one of Lucerne's main thoroughfares it's very convenient, just a stone's throw from the Lion monument, which you shouldn't miss if you're in town. We went there with our two daughters (5+ and 7 months) and felt very welcome, even though it can get a little crammed when many tables are taken. And, always an issue in Switzerland, the prices are very good.
We ate at the Rose Perle quite by accident, the lebonese restaurant was full and we were hungry. When we entered the restaurant we were immediately seated and given the menu and an English menu that was basically the same as the Swiss one but printed on red paper! Service was slow but the restaurant atmosphere was brilliant and the portion sizes were massive. The food was good and the bread to die for! The coffee was excellent but though the house wine was drinkable it wasnt brilliant (but reasonable at 5chf for 4dL). The price was a very reasonable 41 chf for 2 with a glass of wine each. It became apparent that the restaurant was family run and that the couple at the table behind us were the son and his new girlfriend, the table diagonal from us had his gran seated watching with many smiles and the table beside us was some other relative who ended up sharing some of the wine with the waitress while discussing the poor youngsters on their date! We would probably eat here again for the sheer entertainment value.
Sehr gutes Essen zu wirklichen vernünftigen Preisen. Große Auswahl an Speisen, sehr freundliches Personal. Eine schöne Lokalität in guter Lage.
