Holiday Inn Salem - Lower Alloway Creek

I saw 4/5 stars and was hopeful, but should have read the comments the last four months. I won’t ever stay here again, my nose will thank me. For the price, I would expect the rooms not to smell like a dozen wet dogs wearing old gym socks, carpet covered in urine, and comforter with dirt blemishes and other people’s hair inside the bed. Customer service was friendly but unhelpful and offered me an odorizer spray and their apologies. If I could have walked away and not be charged, I would have ran. Lastly, the restaurant showed promise but was disappointing. If you order a 12oz prime rib, you’ll cut out 6-7oz of fat and the rest will be edible and dry (but the veggies were great).Disappointed I chose this place for my family. If you’re traveling with a pack of dogs and want to be accommodated, this place is for you.Rooms: Stinky, urine-filled carpet, tasteless coffee. Nice mirror and charging stations.Food drinks: Don’t eat here, but the drinks are fine.

This was a really nice hotel. It was very clean and the staff were extremely helpful. It had a nice bar and restaurant. We were traveling with a truck and trailer and were offered a place to park behind the hotel. The only problem was that hotel staff indicated our things were not safe due to theft in the area (bicycle rack and things in truck bed). Staff offered to keep our bicycle safe in their shop. We noticed several individuals walking around in the shadows (drug activity) and felt as though we were being watched as we gathered our things to go into the hotel. We ended moving our truck/trailer to the front of the hotel where there was more lighting and cameras. It’s too bad because it isn’t any fault of the hotel. Perhaps an increase in security presence and cameras would be helpful. I would stay there again if traveling by car.

Stairwells are not safe, and cannot reenter the building through the stair doors at groundlevel. Also, cannot gain access to the lobby from the stairs on main level/lobby area. Homeless people in and out of the hotel and elevators. Homeless man followed me from the stair exit to my vehicle and was asking me questions and then went into the hotel and wandered the halls. Skateboarders on the elevator. Significant safety issues here. We actually canceled and found a different hotel to finish our vacation. Complete hassle to do this while trying to enjoy our vacation.Safety: Safety is way below average. Would not stay here again. Stairwells are straight out if a scary movie.

April at the front desk was very kind and went out of her way to ensure we had a room large enough for my family. It was a great first impression. Room was very nice and spacious. Beds were very comfortable. Enjoyed our stay!Rooms: Spacious and comfortable beds!

They messed up our reservation so we had 5 people in a king room and refused to help us. Also, I had a medical item taken from my hotel room. When I contacted the front desk, they told me they would look and get back to me by check in time that day. They didn’t not contact me to 2 days. When I finally got ahold of someone they claimed to have found it after “days” of looking. I was informed I needed to send a shipping label to them in order to get my medical item returned. I sent them the label and the dropped it off at the wrong carrier service with a different label than I had sent them. I have not been able to speak with a manager directly about the issue. Now my package is lost and they are refusing to provide me with any information I order to track and get my missing item back. This whole process has taken over 2 weeks. Do not stay here they are grossly negligent.
