Found out the place opened in 1975, and not much has changed aesthetically I'm sure. It takes a bit longer than most breakfast places, but the service is good and the food is worth the wait.
If you come here expecting your server to pamper you, you're in the wrong place. Leave your ego at the door. The owners have been running this restaurant for 50 years, and I've only ever seen Marlene taking orders and Jeff cooking. The food is a bit pricey but absolutely delicious. Be aware that they're strict about substitutions, and brace yourself if you ask for ketchup! Whenever I’m within a 100-mile radius, I make a point to stop by for breakfast. I discovered this gem in 1984 when I lived nearby, and they find the negative reviews quite amusing. Given that the average lifespan of a restaurant is under two years, they must be doing something right!
First impressions can be misleading, but in this case, they were spot on. The menu, printed with an old typewriter, adds a unique charm. The restaurant boasts a strong French influence, and I decided to try the special of the day: a ham omelette served with avocado and mornay sauce. It's clear that the kitchen team, a husband and wife duo, has a wealth of experience. They infuse the dining area with warmth and hospitality. The wife has a fantastic sense of humor and a dry wit that kept me chuckling throughout my visit. With all the talk of French-inspired dishes, the wait for my meal was absolutely worth it. The omelette was fluffy, the ham was perfectly fried, and the avocado was perfectly ripe. The flavors were delicate, and the hearty portions made for a satisfying breakfast. Don't miss out on the muffins; they are just ideal for a leisurely Sunday brunch.
First of all, I don't understand why some people have had such negative experiences at this restaurant. I should note that I have no personal connection to the owners; this was my first visit as well. The food was fantastic, and you could truly tell that each dish was prepared with care by the husband in the kitchen. The wife was friendly, and our meals arrived in a timely manner. Admittedly, we were the only customers at the time, but the service was far better than what the more extreme reviews suggested. It's possible the couple was just having an off day, and some guests may have unfortunately felt the impact of that. It's essential to treat others with kindness, as it often results in kindness being returned!
