The staff at this restaurant was friendly, and I can't blame them for anything. However, the location is not great, with views of a sewage treatment plant and a run-down area. The food lacked seasoning, and even the dishes labeled as spicy were bland. The outdoor seating area was adorned with dead yellowjackets and open trash cans filled with leftover food. The iconic lighthouse nearby seemed to be in better condition than this restaurant, which has seen better days.
I visited Erie Steak for the second time after a previous disappointing experience with poor service and unclean tables and floors. This time we dined outside and the food was decent, but the prices were unreasonable and the service was extremely slow, despite the lack of a busy crowd. It took over an hour for us to be seated, order, receive our food, and finally receive the bill. The waitstaff made multiple mistakes with our drink orders and seemed apathetic towards their job. While the restaurant claims Covid-related challenges, in my opinion, it does not excuse subpar service or poorly prepared food. The dirty tables and floors were not due to the pandemic, but rather human error and a lack of care from the staff.
The service at this restaurant was awful and the food was just as bad. We had made a reservation a week in advance, but when we arrived we were told there was another waitlist for outside seating that took over an hour. After finally being seated, we waited for more than an hour to receive overcooked fish and poorly prepared Brussels sprouts. The only redeeming aspect of the meal was the delicious strawberry margarita.
I have been coming here for years every time I come home to Ohio. This place used to be a great place that was bustling with business and had great food. When I came this time, it was like a ghost town, and the food was just okay. Service was not nearly the same as in the past. I had the lake Erie perch dinner, which is the main reason for my visit, and it just wasn't as good as prior visits. Too much heavier breading. It was good but not nearly as good as before. I miss the old Jacalope standards and quality.
