Viva Bigotes - Long Branch

In terms of Mexican cuisine in New Jersey, it ranks among the better options, though it might not be the largest. I ordered a variety of meats and other dishes, but I found the chicken, pork, and chorizo to be somewhat bland and in need of more seasoning. On the other hand, the beef taco was quite flavorful. The empanada had a pleasantly surprising maize bread shell that complemented it well, but again, the filling lacked a strong taste. Having had experiences in Texas where the meat is bursting with flavor, I found this food lacking in comparison. Even though the presentation was appealing—even for takeout—the flavors didn’t quite match up. This was my first time visiting, and I’m willing to give it another chance. I would choose this place over Surf Taco, which is just down the street. While I understand that Surf Taco isn’t a traditional Mexican restaurant and focuses on seafood, it ultimately comes down to personal preference. The prices at Bigotes are reasonable, and I feel that the quality of food is appropriate for what you pay. I’ve seen similar establishments outside of New Jersey that are slightly cheaper, but they clearly don’t have to contend with New Jersey's higher rent.

We have dined at Viva Bigotes multiple times, and each visit has been just as delicious as the last! This family-owned and operated restaurant gets it right. They use fresh ingredients and offer a great menu featuring well-prepared traditional Mexican dishes.

I'm really sad to hear that they will be closing on Sunday, November 26. If you visit Bigotés, make sure to save room for the Sopapillas for dessert—they're the best I've ever had! Is the food amazing? Not quite, but it’s definitely good! The service is excellent, and they even give you a mustache!
