Long Beach Tap House

If I were a local, this would be my spot! Small town hospitality, locally owned, genuine and excellent service.

We had a reservation for 12 people for dinner over the holidays before going to Gondola Getaways, and were looking for something casual but delicious with 8 ‘big kids’, ages 12-21 in tow. The restaurant is fairly small, so when we walked in for our 6:30pm reservation I talked to the gal behind the bar, telling her our large party had arrived and she curtly said ‘table is in the back’. So our entire party of 12 walked through the restaurant to ‘the back’ thinking there was another room we couldn’t see ….and when we turned the corner, dead ended into the bathrooms. No back room. There was only one table near the back of the restaurant (a high cocktail table that sat 8 ppl but had two people sitting in the middle of it). So we all went back up to the front and waited for the bartender to return since she had disappeared. After waiting 3-4 minutes (mind you this is a small place but with probably 15 other patrons inside and no other employees visible), my husband decided to go next door to the neighboring restaurant Panama Joes to see if they could take us. While we were waiting, the bartender retuned and I said ‘there isn’t a table in the back?” to which she replied ‘oh, I thought you were with them” gesturing to the high top which was obviously too small and already occupied. Right then my husband returned and told us Panama Joe’s could take us. She seemed relieved and didn’t even attempt to keep us even thought there was an ENTIRE PATIO open in the front, which could have easily seated us. Lucky for Panama Joe’s next door (which was MUCH more lively, festive, friendly and service oriented) we spent our $700 on dinner and drinks there instead of Long Beach Tap House. Never again.

Food was less than average. Server was nice, but service was poor. Long wait to order, long wait for food. Lemon Drop martini was missing simple sugar. Server offered another drink on the house. It was better with the simple sugar, but missing sugar on the rim. No non alcoholic beer for the designated driver. They were accommodating with seating request.

Excellent choice to hang out and have a couple of pints with mates. Food was decent other than the salad lacked enough ingredients to make it more than lettuce in a bowl. Had the nacho fries as a share, must get, very tasty. Will be back.
