Not knowing anything about the place we were very pleasantly surprised, for upon entering as it had that warm neighborhood bar feeling. The walls are covered with lots of large TV screens and various Southern African animal heads, ranging from Wildebeest to warthogs, this I thought was not your typical American sports bar. But all became clear when we sat at the bar and Michael the bar tender explained that the owner was from South Africa. There was a fair range of beers on tap which apparently, they change weekly, my adult beverage of choice was the White Rascal, and my wives was the house chardonnay which according to her had a great flavor. As we were going out to dinner later, we just ordered appetizers from the South African influence happy hour menu. Boy what a surprise, the mini sausage rolls came on a very large plate and the taste was outstanding, only thing missing was the Colman’s hot English mustard. As for my wife’s dish, it was all that I could do to stop her ordering more fish tacos they were so good. We checked out the regular menu and there are a great range of south African dish 's, especially real meat pies which are very hard to find outside an English or Irish Pub in California. There was even food for vegetarians, but I am not sure about veggie shepherd’s pie! Will certainly be coming back to try the steak pie served with mashed potatoes, gravy and green peas. What really impressed me was that while sitting at the bar looking at all the spirit bottles, I spotted a bottle of Campari, so ask Michael the bar tender if he could make me a drink called Mistake , (Campari, red vermouth and Prosecco in a large glass) he sure could and even including the large single Ice ball. Cannot recommend this place enough, as the prices are reasonable, and the service is great. TIP: Read the Menu and try something new you might be pleasantly surprised.
Fantastic service and some great food We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back. Fun little bar/grill with a real neighbourhood feel. Our waitress had excellent suggestions and knew the menu inside and out. Great selection of beer on tap to boot! I had placed my order but saw a plate of the Guiness meat pie go by and quickly changed. Glad I did The puff pastry crust was light and flakey and the insides were piping hot and yummy. We also had one of the daily specials mac 'n cheese with lobster and shirmp. While the lobster was a little chewy, the pasta and shrimp were excellent. When we mentioned it our waitress wanted to bring out an entire new plate, and when we insisted that was not required she insisted on treating us to a dessert. Now that 's customer service! Lots of other intriguing items on the menu for our next visit!
Have you ever gone to a restaurant and watched the manager stop by every table but your table to chat? This does not happen at El Dorado Bar and Grill. Robbie, the manager on Saturday night, stopped by to thank us for trying El Dorado Bar and Grill and gave us a free dessert as appreciation of our being a first time customer. The Milk Tart Milk Tart was fun and tastes great. The milk tart is a traditional South African cinnamon custard pie served with whipped cream. Yummy. El Dorado Bar and Grill is a restaurant, bar, sports bar and tavern all in one. It's great for a family, couple, group. There's a band every Friday and Saturday night. There are televisions with various sports playing. It features a menu of American fare, draft beers cocktails. My lamb shank was excellent. My husband enjoyed his steak. We can't wait to go back to try the curry.
The food here is outstanding with the fairly new owners from South Africa. We have found the service to be the same outstanding. They have a full bar and pour good drinks. It is a good crowd that is attracted to this restaurant.
We have driven past this place for the past 13 years and never went in. Tonight was the night. What a nice surprise. We decided to go with the South African cuisine horse red the Durban Curry and Rice (lamb) and the Peri Peri Chicken. Both meals were very very tasty both had the hot pepper by the menu selection so they had a bit of heat to them but the flavor was really nice and not too hot. Desert followed with the traditional Milk Tart and the Chocolate Special. Both deserts were tasty although the cake in the chocolate special was just so so. I downgraded a star because some of the lamb was a bit fatty and the chocolate cake was dry and a bit gritty. That said we really enjoyed the food, the service was good, and the prices reasonable. We'll definitely be back.
