Make the scene. Spiritship. Late in the night. Post Ghost Tour. Terrible customers... and a surprisingly delicious restaurant. Really not much expected, but was very impressed by the quality of food. We had 2 burgers of the triple stack and the steak and crab cake and both were amazing. The fries were also delicious. The food was a little pricy and the servers were a bit pretentious, but these were a really smaller criticism. The service was quick and friendly.
Delicious food. The view is inexplicable and offers a magnificent view of the bay. The food is also very good. I had the BBQ shrimps that, while a little overwhelmed by the bisque it sat, was quite delicious. The Calamari-Lollipops in a similar situation were quite bland, but saved by the rich breaking. For my main court, I ordered the Cod. It was probably the least sought after part of the meal, as it was slightly overcooked and overwhelming buttery. For the desert I ordered a slice of lemon cake. To my surprise, the cake was 6 layers tall. It was very good cake, but in any case too much for one (can even two or three) people. The table service was okay, just a forgotten thing here and a lull in service there, but our waiters were very nice. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.
If a sign of a good restaurant is when you go back, what does it mean if you go back three times in three days? The Chelsea has a menu with enough variety to satisfy various pallets, but small enough to allow the chefs to do every dish well. Of course there are some dishes better than others. This Yelper can be recommended for and: Shrimp Scampi: Creamy Perfection. The shrimps are large and juicy. The challenging ingredient of the caper is used here with delicate precision. The portion size is sufficient to satisfy, but not more than necessary. Add salt and pepper to increase taste. Chicken Carbonara: The star of this plate is its unnamed ingredient prosciutto. Little nuggets of salty quality accompany cheese filled Ravioli. The sauce is silky and potent. As with the scampi salt and pepper are required. Avocado Bacon Burger with Fritten: Not as excellent as the previous dishes you would expect, it is still delicious. The slightly roasted rabbit is buttery and fresh toppings (letters, avocado, red onion) are crisp and tasteful. The meat is quality, but a little dry. Fries are golden, fried. Servers are quick to fill and even anticipate the needs. Prices average $16 to $25 per plate.
I had a solo dinner here tonight in between phases of an event I was attending. Service was great. I ordered the wedge (I can't help it- I love those things! And the crispy skin salmon with shaved cucumbers and pickled ginger. I could have done without the ginger but the cucumbers, sauce and salmon were flavored really well. The salmon was *just* this side of too done but I was pretty hungry and with the cucumbers and sauce it was fine. I don't know who claimed the portions are too small but both my salad and the salmon were PLENTY of food. I *did* watch a couple of bigger guys not finish their lobster rolls, so you might be wary of ordering that. Also- it's quite dark. I saw more than one person using their phones to read the menu. It's nothing fancy, really like an old side deck transformed into a restaurant.
