The meat itself was superb. It came actually served on the rib bones which was rather cool in a carnivorous sort of way. The meat was tender and still moist and flavoursome. The pork comes from Dingley Dell Pork, as advertised in their menu. I love it when a place gives a shout out to its suppliers and producers. Kudos to you Halfway House for that. The crackling needed a bit of work. It was crisp and snapped yep, but it needed a bit more air too it. For me crackling needs to have that crunch, but it also needs to almost have a honeycomb texture to it – something which is achieved by the fat being put under high heat and almost bubbling up, rising and then setting. That produces a crunch that is also chewable. Snap and chew, teeth sinking softly through soft but DRY fat, rather than snap-oh-****-I-just-broke-a-tooth. Lovely pub, it's one that I've been meaning to go to for a while since moving to the area. The outside looks really inviting and the inside is really well kept and comfortable. Also dog friendly with space between tables for them to lay down. The staff are super attentive and quick with taking orders. We didn't eat as it was social drinks with friends but the menu looks great. There are plenty of choices on tap to suit most tastes
What a great time at the Halfway House! 3 of us had a few of the sharing dishes, whilst another went for the fish and chips… everything was cooked to absolute perfection, and we all said that the pork belly was one of the best bits of pork we’d ever tried! The team are also really friendly at the Halfway House, definitely going to book a table again over the next few weeks!
Had always frequented this place for a quick pint out the station and enjoyed the service and quality of the pints. The blonde haired barman pours a delightful Guinness! Recently popped in for a Sunday lunch and had a delightful set of meals, the roast fish chips were particularly good all at a decent price point. Everything you could ask for from your local station pub (and more!
Having recently moved locally, we have tried a few places for Sunday dinner. This was the best we’ve had so far. Plenty of beef cooked to your liking, a good amount of horseradish sauce, excellent veg and roast potatoes. Plus it’s not too loud in there unlike other places. Music at a decent volume so you can have a conversation.
