It's not an exclusively underground scene, but there's definitely a bit of that vibe here. Cool bartenders who are friendly, talkative, and full of energy. Fair prices. It's not a fancy place, nor is it a dive. It's a basement bar in a good location where they play decent music and are 100% non-pretentious. I saw them making some nice looking cocktails but I was drinking beer so I can't comment on the quality of their signature drinks. Would definitely return.
I'm not a big fan of cocktail bars but I must say this one is quite nice. Great location, fun decor and funny staff. The cocktails are as expensive as you'd expect them to be, but they have original names and some of them are quite uncommon. It is not big so arrive early or book your table in advance !
This branch is A LOT busier than the shoreditch branch so don't come in expecting to get a table. The menu was all the same as was the happy hour deal 2 cocktails for £12 (although there's barely any alcohol in them). We managed to get table for an hour but after leaving the table to stand by the bar we sobered up pretty quickly between the bright lights and people traffic.
Another of the underground (literally underground, not some grey market boozer cocktail bars, London Cocktail Club earns its place among my preferred watering holes although more for the staff than the cocktail menu. To be fair, the cocktail menu is more than adequate with the usual selection of classics and then a few unique drinks. My Sazerac was good but it didn 't blow me away. I prefer a solid glass with some thick ice cubes rather than the drink being devoid of anything but that 's more a personal preference in temperature than a failure in presentation. The Egg Bacon cocktail is a whiskey based drink designed to look like an egg yolk with the corresponding foamy white on top and garnished with a strip of caramelised bacon. The smokiness of the JD works quite well and it feels as if you had ordered eggs at a BBQ joint. My type of food...errr...drink. But what really sets this place apart is the pure energy and enthusiasm of the wait staff. Our waiter was the happiest smiley guy to ever serve a drink. Even at 11pm on a Tuesday night, he was a one man show which kept us both entertained and liquored up. He also brought mug and mug of fresh popcorn for us to snack on as we sipped and gossiped. The décor is very homely and a bit like Bourne Hollingsworth with the framed pictures and tea room style seating. Overall, everything seems to be designed to make you feel at home and snugly tucked away from the real world. An atmosphere more places should copy I think. Other thoughts...It 's quite small so probably best to reserve table if you can. Even late on a Tuesday night all the seats were taken. It 's a great place to start and/or end a night on Charlotte street. I can easily see myself doing both pre- and post- dinner cocktails there with a break in-between for a good dinner (say Pied de Terre? . Oh and the toilets have a highly entertaining method of telling you which is the guys and which is for the girls...see if you can work it out. And it 's **** hard to see the small sign at night, so for ease of reference it 's right opposite from Benitos Hat.
When you first arrive at the London cocktail club you might be surprised by the sudden climb down stairs, past tastefully executed graffiti art with a twist into a low light catacomb of wide eyed drinkers and excited staff. This place is instantly invigorates the senses with it 's unique decor and very off-beat menu of all sorts. The cocktails......are out of this world. These boys and girls at the bar know what they are doing and know what they want to do. The bar oozes creativity and and thought. A true cocktail experience of excellence in my opinion. Myself and my girlfriend were lucky enough to be with a friend who knew the owner so we got a peak in the galley style kitchen and were later moved into the phone booth booth.... This is place that automatically encourages plenty fun and giggles amongst friends. We had a great time. There are a few negatives which I really think I need to mention which all our table agreed was pulling the efforts of the The London cocotail club short. Food.... There 's a loose type of menu, which is hard to find so you feel like theres more of a talk about food rather than a real commitment to serve it. The club doesn 't really want to offer any focus on good food, it 's all about the cocktails...but I was surprised by this after seeing two chefs in the kitchen on our arrival. The fact that they only offered nachos.....when we needed a bite to eat to help balance out our spirited cocktails.... to me is a terrible thing. Only one thing left in the kitchen? Really?? A good cocktail bar should always encourage some tasty snacks of some description. The more you eat...the more you drink. So what had been a 5 star experience conservatively loses half a star. When I go again if this is the case again I think it 's fair to deduct further. They really dropped the ball in this area. I also have deducted half a star for the music.....it was sloppy in it 's delivery and had no smooth direction. A few current tracks were thrown in amongst a lot a mainstream 80s music which funny enough I enjoyed. But around 10pm the music selection bounced onto Kelly Clarkson and a further barrage of teen pop songs turning to funky club into a cheese club. Just terrible. An a complete contradiction to the electric ambiance enjoyed on arrival. When my friend asked about the extreme move in muse, the answer given was we attract a 25 year old crowd around this time of night .....our waitress also looked saddened by this. Other than these two significant criticisms, the London cocktail club is awesome. Any cocktail club offering a Mariachi band, massive gang banger cocktails for 6 is a must visit in my opinion, and the list goes on. I just hope the two negatives I have mentioned that almost spoiled an otherwise brilliant evening were a hiccup of the night, and not a standard part of an otherwise excellent cocktail bar.
