I refrain from comparing it to canteen food because it is not, it is better than that though I am sure that the managers would welcome the comparison in some senses. High end canteen food, plated, is not quite right but it certainly captures a portion of Bistro Union’s essence. In my opinion it is most spectacular in its Brit Tapas, whoops I meant ‘bar snacks’. They really are great and, at from 2-6 pounds per plate, more than a moderate bargain. I will go to Bistro Union repeatedly and often for carafes of wine and...read more
Very mediocre Sunday lunch. Had to send back as beef cool. Gravy really poor watery and not rich thick and glossy as beef roast gravy should be. Yorkshire great.but didn't impress me at all and very overpriced for 2 slices of beef. You need a new chef to be honest. Would not recommend at £40 per head plus wine. Management seem happy with themselves but this place needs a lot of work.
Absolutely appalled. Went in the summer and had the steak for two which was good. Went this autumn and ordered the special roast pigeon and we have never had a worse dish in our lives. We are familiar with the meat, having eaten several varieties of pigeon before, but the meat was extremely tough and impossible to cut in the way that it was served. We flagged this to the manager and asked for a sharper knife, then we sent it back to be cut up for us. In total we had about two small mouthfuls of meat each (for £60 excluding drinks!! . When we asked for the bill we then explained that we were seriously disappointed to Martin the manager. Having worked several years in the service industry myself as a waiter I know that I would have offered a discount (especially to a returning customer which we mentioned!! . Instead the manager took my card and put the card machine in my face whilst we were still explaining how disappointed we were with our meal. I am still in shock.
Great option in Clapham and sister restaurant for the Trinity. The service was great and food was excellent. If you get the dessert, the basque cheesecake was fantastic! Only star knocked off is because there was no indication on the website that Sunday 's have a 'Sunday Lunch ' menu (roast). We were looking forward to the normal menu so was slightly disappointed however the food was still great!
The food was outstanding and brilliant service. We had a very lovely evening
