Now that Texas has a million great BBQ places, it is fair to understand why the original Black's Barbecue in Lockhart is known as one of the best. Immersed in the historic area of Lockhart, feel as if you already experience a piece of history as you are waiting in line outside this highly praised ice cream. We went to lunch on Saturday and the waiting period was not more than 15 minutes. And even this time seemed to pass when we admired all the photos of famous people who visited the walls in the hallway when we approached the naval line. The nap line starts with the secondary dishes that I can say are about a B/B rating, they have the standard green beans, dirty rice, pinto beans, Mac n cheese, Slav, potato salad, but what was hanging on me was their Jalapeno corbread. In my opinion, it was a B /A. The serving sizes and prices are very fair and they have some excellent options to choose from. I can't honestly say that any meat I tried was the best I had from all BBQ connections in Texas, but it was still very good. Regarding the atmosphere, this place is certainly an A. I feel like I went into a time capsule of 1932 and I felt that I earned my money from the visceral experience alone.
The pork ribs were fantastic! They were moist delicate with a large smokey taste. The hearty sausage was beautifully spiced and perfectly smoked. The brisket and beef ribs were moist with a nice smoke taste. The green was and potato salad sides were okay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking was convenient and free.
When in Texas... near Lockhart... or even if you are just looking for a place to enjoy big BBQ, then go to Black’s. First of all, I would call a "regular" joint. Not as unusual as a BBQ chain. The food is excellent in every respect. Staff friendly and helpful to this first timer. The Brisket is a top notch, sausage good. Pages what you expect. Sitting in large areas easy. Parking lot in the area. I'm back. And again.
This was good BBQ and we all enjoyed it, as well as the staff were very nice and helpful. I was shocked that we spent $100 for 2 of us and our daughter, because we did not realize how they learned their pages for every plate you got, and our stomachs ordered the meat so that we ordered: , lesson. Loved as they had to go containers and lids so that you could take everything home, we are not the only newcomers around.
The food was good. We had beef rib, brisket, pork rib and sausage. We also had sides of mac and cheese and potato salad. The sides were good. You can really taste the smoke in the pork ribs. The beef ribs were tender but not anything special. The brisket was on the dry side. The sausage was pretty oily. The food was tasty and not too expensive. If people want to compare this to Terry Blacks then I would say Terry has better brisket but Blacks has better ribs and is less pricey. Solid 4 Stars.
