If you're really hungry, come here to eat! the staff here was so friendly and full of good local advice. this is usually not the kind of place I would choose, I really prefer right country pubs, but not much was opened in the backwaters of devon on a Monday evening, so really glad that we found the gay and whistle. Come back here.

We had a gorgeous Mothers Day roast. The food was excellent, can’t fault! The only thing I will say is the service was okay but a little strange. We had a girl who said someone would take a drinks order, no one came. The table next to us were seated after us and got served before us. We had to ask for menus and a drinks order. The food was prompt fantastic. One server commented on how stressful the day had been twice over we didn’t ask? One server told us she was new. And another asked if we had a nice meal, apart from the beer around the water glass (from when he bought our drinks over) which sounded kind of sarcastic or he was just saying what he was thinking. But it seemed like everyone just said what they were thinking while serving us today. I would suggest slightly more professionalism from servers. Suggestion: Don’t polish cutlery in the middle of the pub, it was noisy and really annoying while we were trying to have conversations as it was right next to our table. BUT .. Great food!

Food very nice, I’ve been going to the pig and whistle for a number of years now. I usually have a pleasant time there and the food is usually top quality. How ever one bar maid named (Lisa) I found very unpleasant and rude! And I would not recommend going there if she is working.

We saw this pub last week and found it again today.The food was outstanding especially the pink gin and tonic sponge cake with strawberry Devon custard.We couldn't eat it fast enough. Very friendly staff and good value fir money.
