39 Degraus strives to provide Portuguese food “with a twist”. We ordered the pork cheeks and vegetarian daily special (a mixture of vegetables in a flaky crust). The pork cheeks were served with mashed potatoes and a wonderful gravy. The meat was so tender and the sauce very tasty. What separated the pork cheeks from others was the garnish of salsa. This was a lovely foil to the richness of the dish. The vegetable strudel was delicious and came with a fresh green salad. The wine list is extensive and the house wine excellent. The service was excellent and everyone from the hostess to the serving staff were friendly and professional. The restaurant is located in a museum dedicated to cinematic history. The 39 Degraus has an entrance not obvious from the street and the museum itself is in an elegant mansion. Look for the restaurant entrance on your left as you enter the courtyard. As a bonus for people who like to eat before 7, this restaurant opens at noon and stays open until 1 AM.
