Duke's Kauai - Lihue

Great ambience beautiful setting right in front of beach. Food was good even had a nice salad bar. Save room for hula pie. Waiters were great always checking up on your drinks water etc.

Most expensive and very small portions. Horribly prepared. The only good thing is the salad bar. That's always been the best but this place is not the same. Spent over 200 for three entree s and two appetizers no drinks... that's crazy . Don't do it trust me.

I reserved at Duke's weeks before my trip because it was on so many lists of a place with good food and a view. They have free valet parking please tip) down the steep driveway next to the Royal Sonesta hotel. Follow the walkway to the host stand. The view from the entrance was very impressive with a bar, live music, and walk in tables below. If you make advance reservations you will get one of the ocean view tables on the upper floor. The seared sashimi grade Furikake Ahi Steak served with shitakke, rice, and black bean bok choy, topped with pickled cucumber salad was a delicious twist on the usual tuna tataki for $43 The main course of chicken, ribs and added coconut shrimp $16) served with rice, cucumber salad and macaroni salad for $29 included high quality Compart family farms pork and all natural huli huli chicken. I wanted to try their famous salad bar, but this plate was so big that there was no room for salad or dessert!

Such a good restaurant. The first time we went, we sat downstairs in the bar area. The service was amazing and everything came out pretty quickly. We ordered the buffalo wings and coconut shrimp and they were really good. Got a hula pie and a twisted one and oh my goodness, I could eat a dozen of those. They are delicious. Second time, we got a reservation since we were a large group. I ordered the Mac crusted fish and it came with a side of rice and vegetables. The sauce they put was so good. Once again we ordered more hula pies. The hula pies are worth a visit to any of the Duke's locations

Dukes didn't blow my mind, but there also isn't anything I can complain about either Food was decent and our blended cocktail was good. Seems like people around our hotel are happy eating there. I do think there are better restaurants within a 15 minute drive, but you also should be OK here.
