My wife ordered the petite filet cooked medium, but it came out medium rare and lacked flavor. I opted for the lamb chops, which were quite tasty. What bothered us was that we upgraded our sides for an additional cost, but instead of charging us $2.50 per side, they charged us the full $8 for each one. Each entrée already came with two sides, and we only ordered one extra side each, so we ended up being overcharged by $11.00 in total. It would have been better if they were transparent about their pricing rather than trying to deceive their customers.
I have mixed feelings about the rating I should give this restaurant because the food quality and service/ambiance are on opposite ends of the spectrum. We were excited to try the porterhouse for two for the first time, hoping for an amazing steak dinner. Unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. Even after remaking our dinner, it did not improve much. We ordered two separate porterhouse for two dishes for the four of us. After two rounds of steaks and sides, we found the dinner to be disappointing. The steaks were under seasoned, fatty, and tough. The sides and steaks in the first round were lukewarm and lacked flavor. The crab cake appetizer was the only highlight and was delicious. Despite our disappointment with the food, the service was excellent. Our server was attentive and the manager was apologetic and welcoming. The service and ambiance were great, but we do not recommend the porterhouse for two. The restaurant is still a fantastic spot, and we hope other dishes would stand out if we return.
The Blue Heron Steakhouse is a locally owned and operated restaurant that offers a wonderful dining experience. The charming old home has been renovated with an original fireplace, a stately bar, and seating area. The Loaded Baked Potato soup was delicious, with generous toppings. The Commanders Fish of the Day was a fabulous dish, recommended by the server, and provided a virtual taste bud explosion. The service was excellent, and their well-crafted cocktails added to the overall experience.
First time at Blue Heron. Our waiter, Carlo was fantastic. We began with drinks. I had the Proper Old Fashioned and my wife had a Ketel One Dirty Martini. Both were great. The frog legs appetizer was cooked perfect. Plenty of frog legs for 2 people. For entrees I had a medium rare filet with baked potato and my wife had the pan seared salmon with asparagus. Both were delicious. Dessert was the cheesecake with a blueberry compote. One of the best cheesecakes I have ever had. We were in the side dining area and it felt more intimate than the main dining room.
Blue Heron Steakhouse totally lived up to our expectations and then some! It's cozy and quaint and Lacey took great care of us. The food was amazing. The steaks were high quality and grilled exactly as we liked. The sides were delicious as well. The dark chocolate mousse was heavenly and paired nicely with the remaining Cabernet Sauvignon I had left after supper. We were seated by the fireplace, and upon closer inspection, the chandelier is made from old Maker's Mark bottles. I love the exposed brick as well.
