The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, filled with delicious pastries. Despite the limited seating, I don't mind at all! They serve large, delicious coffees along with a wonderful menu of Deli and Tapas options.
Located on the top of scenic Telegraph Hill, this spot is one of the top places in New Cross to grab a cup of coffee. The café is popular among stylish mothers, but that just adds to the ambiance. They serve generous portions of delicious coffee and offer a great selection of deli and tapas dishes on their menu.
The space is nice enough and the food isn't actively terrible, although it is overpriced for what it is (and cold). By far the worst thing, though, is the service. The staff are, frankly, rude. They avoid eye contact when they dump the food on...the table, and glare at you if you ask them for even the most reasonable requests (I had the gall to ask for salt and pepper). It just adds up to a really unpleasant atmosphere. Avoid it.
Visited early at opening time during the heatwave. A male staff member was putting out the rubbish bins and then afterwards opening the doors with apparent difficulties. When the counter was manned, I asked for a coffee for myself and a sausage roll for old. These were stored pre wrapped in an open basket container on the counter top. I saw no chill cabinet. The sausage roll was supplied by the lady staff member and arrived warm to a barely tepid level of less than open and in a cardboard tray. The young man then proceeded to serve my coffee. At no point did he leave my sight between his evident arrival and rubbish disposal, nor did he ever wash his hands. The tables we tried were sticky and some still had crumbs from previous diners. At checkout, was a display of cloth bags for sale at child height, the front one emblazoned with a slogan including the word F*ck. I paid reluctantly as I did not wish to upset my yr old who was awaiting the sausage roll and left both the coffee and dumped the sausage roll in the nearest bin.
I walked up from New Cross Gate and passed through Telegraph Lower Hill Park. Before entering Telegraph Upper Park, I decided to relax and have a snack at The Hill Community Cafe. I ordered a bacon roll and tea, which were both tasty. The cafe, as its name suggests, is designed for the community. Overall, it's a nice place to stop in between the two parks during a hill climb.
