Were hiking in the area and had been here before, so popped in for lunch. Staff were very friendly and beers and food were excellent. Beers on tap we hadn’t tried before which was great. Chicken pie best we have found in Sussex so far.
I was hiking with my LGBTQ+ hiking group called TREK/FIT on Sunday 20th August. After a long hike we ended up in Lewes where I had the pleasure of savoring a roast lamb dinner at The Snowdrop Inn, and I can’t stop raving about the incredible culinary experience I had. All of our hiking group were equally complimentary of the food and service. From start to finish, every aspect of the meal was absolutely fantastic. The food was cooked perfectly, generous in portion size and was accompanied by a medley of tasty vegetables. For such a large group we had a private upstairs area and the staff were always attentive and the food orders were delivered quickly. All of this and more in a rustic and cosy environment which sums up the traditional English pub. I hope we can return to this charming pub for another post hike social. Thoroughly recommended if you are in Lewes or the surrounding area!
A comically bad experience. My Sunday lunch quiche, salad, chips arrived with 7 or 8 actual chips surrounded by a mound of potato shrapnel, detritus from the bottom of the tray, which was truly unappealing. 15 quid btw. A polite complaint resulted in another small pot of chips arriving, albeit after I’d eaten the quiche. When the I’m guessing, long-suffering waitress asked if everything had been ok, I said not really and that the plate that had been served suggested a cook who didn’t care much about either food or customers. Word got back quickly to Cook Dom, who popped out of the kitchen. Not, as you might imagine, to apologise, but to loudly call me out for being ‘childish’. When I reminded him of what an unappetising portion of ‘chips’ he’d produced, he justified it on the basis that it was, and I quote ‘what we had left’. It’s a bold position to adopt, you have to admit. So if you want to go to a quite sweet pub, pay 15 quid for the privilege of eating whatever they happen to have left, and then be insulted for having the temerity to mention that their scrapings weren’t quite up to scratch, then The Snowdrop is the place for you. Nice bar staff, but the cook might want to rethink his life choices.
This is a very friendly pub with great atmosphere. The service is excellent as were the meals! My husband forgot to mention when he ordered that I can 't have dairy. My lunch arrived with peas in butter. We asked for a plate so I cou6take off the peas and other contaminated food. They insisted on making me fresh peas minus the butter even though it wasn 't their fault. I must say those peas tasted just like garden grown ones they were so full of flav6! We would highly recommend The Snowdrop Inn, Lewes.
