The bar tender came over and informed us they were out of most things... she gave us an updated menu and apologized. We did not stick around to see how the food was or was not. (I did see someone else 's Mac n cheese and it looked like straight out of a Ryan 's all you can eat buffet
What I like about the Pastime is that it is not a tourist trap, but more like your neighborhood ma pa bar. The menu consists of simple American food fare with BBQ ribs burgers. I had a half pound cheeseburger with hand cut fries. The food was delicious. They don 't have microbrews or any beer on tap. Just simple domestic Mexican cans and bottles.
While exploring Leadville today we stopped at the Pastime Bar for lunch mostly because of its good Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. Mary had the the mushroom swiss burger and I had the bacon swiss burger--both were excellent! They were both perfectly cooked, served on toasted sesame seed bun with freshly cut fries. Service was quick and friendly and we were out the door for 28 bucks including a nice tip. And, all this in a wonderfully historic setting.
Come to this historic local watering hole for a Leadville history lesson. Built in 1878, the original dance hall and gambling saloon was a part of the Red Light District frequented by such Western legends as Doc Holliday and Jesse James. Early ownership of the saloon can be traced back to the Tabor family. The Pastime is the last remaining of 64 saloons that once lined State Street and it is still a locally owned and operated business. Today, the Pastime is still very much a bar and I think the addition of Cafe is overly ambitious. The menu consists of simple bar food like burgers, BBQ sandwiches, and chicken fingers. It 's all obviously food service food and really nothing to write home about. So come here for drinks (but not draft beers because they don 't have any), and food only if you need it while you 're drinking. Prices are reasonable, service is very friendly, and the chicken fingers actually weren 't half bad.
Sascha is the best bartender I've ever encountered. He is incredibly friendly and personable.
